I want to downgrade the firmware from MALBLIPP1N001.2314A.00 to an OLDER version that will support non genuine HP cartridges. Does anyone have a link to the older versions please?

Hi @IT-Norwich-Ltd,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd like to help!

Most recent hp printers do not allow firmware downgrade. They have built-in code that checks the version of the download and will not accept any firmware that is earlier than the current version.

You may refill your cartridges or use remanufactured cartridges, but you may run into problems. HP will not guarantee the functionality of those ink cartridges.

There are many cartridges in the market which is refilled and sometimes the chip is not configured to work with the printer. You need to contact the cartridge manufacturer and find out why its not working. Try a different cartridge supplier and check if that works.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thanks for the response. This "genuine" versus "non-genuine" ink situation has been going on almost since colour inkjets were released to the domestic market, which I have been a part of for over 25 years. I am extremely disappointed and this direction by HP of disallowing HP firmware downgrades serves only the interests of HP shareholders, rather than HP users.

HP customers should be able to use the ink of their choosing in their printers for the same reason that Dualit customers should be able to choose whose bread goes in their toaster. The practice of "tying" is rightly decried by economists and competition regulators as an invitation to monopoly pricing and reduced competition and innovation. HP customers should choose HP ink because it is the best, not because their printer won't work with a competitor's brand.

I will mark this post as helpful so I can be sure to remind my customers never to buy an HP Inkjet Printer again.
