Hi @NAE13

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If your HP OfficeJet 8028e is performing maintenance checks with every print job, it may be due to the printer trying to ensure optimal print quality.

Here’s what you can do to minimize these interruptions:

Check Printer Firmware:

  • Make sure your printer’s firmware is up to date. Printer maintenance routine updates can be included in new firmware releases, which might resolve excessive maintenance checks.
  • You can find firmware updates via the HP Smart app or on the HP website.

Automatic Maintenance Settings:

  • Go to the printer settings or control panel and check if there is an option to adjust the frequency of automatic maintenance tasks. It's not always available, but it's worth reviewing.

Regular Manual Maintenance:

  • Periodically run the manual maintenance features such as printhead cleaning and alignment. This can sometimes reduce the need for automatic checks before every print job.

Ink Cartridge Status:

  • Ensure that the ink cartridges are properly seated and recognized by the printer to avoid unnecessary checks due to perceived cartridge errors.

Check for Print Quality Settings:

  • High print quality settings may invoke more frequent maintenance routines. Try adjusting your print settings to a lower quality temporarily to see if this affects the maintenance frequency.

Reset Printer:

  • Perform a full factory reset on the printer. This can clear any erroneous settings that might be causing excessive maintenance checks.

If none of these steps seem to reduce the maintenance checks, reaching out to HP phone support team might be necessary to explore hardware or software issues specific to your device.

Thank you Hawk_Eye.  This worked.  I didn't have to do a reset, and everything seemed at the correct settings, but just cleaning everything was evidently what was needed.  Thank you so much.
