HP OfficeJet Pro 9012
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Good morning to all,

All my hardware is connected to a switched mains plug to save power during the night.

When powering up my OfficeJet Pro starts up even though I don't need it.

Obviously it wastes money, but worse than that it probably wastes ink during the booting process.

My HP Photosmart didn't use to do that, I had to press the On/Off button to switch it on after powering up the mains switch.

Is there any way to have the same behaviour with the OfficeJet Pro, as part of the "green" behaviour ?

Can HP include it in next software update ?

@JIPS, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Ideally the printer should power ON when the power button is pressed. This model printer too has a power button. Once the main switch is ON, you will have to press the power button to turn on the printer.

If the printer directly powers on, try to perform a hard reset.

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

Now, try again.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Sorry Kumar but the printer keeps switching on when it is plugged in. I would like it to stay "off" until I press the button.

Bestest.
