Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I'm having issues with the alignment for duplex printing with cardstock on my HP OfficeJet Pro 6978.

I have cleaned the printheads, the print rollers (all three), and have changed to a lighter paper.

110lbs to 65lbs.

I have also tried multiple print options. Changing paper type, changing dpi, changing size of document and to no avail.

Nothing has worked and I'm at the point of just throwing it out and purchasing a new one if I can't get it to work.

Has anyone else had this issue?

More importantly, does anyone know how to fix it?

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Click here to check the Paper handling specifications of HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 printer.

Step 1: Align the printhead:

  1. Load plain white paper in the input tray.

  2. From the printer control panel, open the Setup  menu.

  3. Open the Printer Maintenance or Tools menu.

  4. Touch Align Printhead.

    An alignment page prints.

Step 3: Check the print settings on your computer:

  1. Open the document, click File, and then click Print.

  2. Select your printer, and then click Printer Properties, Preferences, or Printer Setup, depending on what displays.

The Document Properties or Printing Preferences window opens.

    • If a Printing shortcuts tab is available, select the Print on Both Sides or Two-sided (Duplex) Printing option.

      Using the duplex printing shortcut

    • If a Printing Shortcut tab or a duplexing shortcut is not available, click the Layout, Features, or Finishing tab, depending on which tab displays.

Using the duplex printing menu on the Layout tab

  3. Locate the Print on Both Sides or Two-sided printing menu or option, then select the binding or page flip option.

    1. Booklet style (flip on long edge)

    2. Tablet style (flip on short edge)

  4. Click OK, and then click Print.

Let me know how this goes.

Thank you for responding.

I have already tried those options and it still is not aligning on the second page when duplex printing on cardstock.

Any other suggestions?
