HP OfficeJet Pro 7720 Wide Format All-in-One Printer

Hello,

I believe my HP OfficeJet Pro 7720 printer is bricked. It initially displayed a message asking me to replace my ink cartridges, even though I have been using non-HP branded ones that were working fine and still had plenty of ink. The printer was still functional at this point, but after attempting a firmware downgrade, it now appears to be completely unresponsive.

I attempted the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Resetting the printer – No change, it remains stuck on the "Change Ink Cartridge" screen.
  • Connecting via USB and wireless – Unable to reset or access the printer.
  • Firmware downgrade and update attempts – The downgrade seems to have triggered the issue. Now, the printer status shows as "busy" (see attached screenshot), preventing any further updates or actions.

At this point, I can’t print, reset, or access any settings. Is there any way to recover my printer, or is it permanently bricked? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

As you do not use the latest firmware, the web services are expected to fail .

Please open the Home tab, and add a screenshot of the exact messaging shown on the tab, either for the printer status and the ink cartridges status  (be sure to remove any personal details as a printer serial number if any such are listed).

Also, any specific ink cartridge is marked with any such error, or all four cartridges?

This is what I see:

It tells me to replace all the cartridges, even though the ones that are there were working (and I did replace to another few of the same off-brand type that didn't change the status). It seems to me like an HP push for me to buy the branded cartridges other than an actual need of the device. I just want it to work as it was working.

As for the message in the printer it tells me to "insert the cartridges that came with the printer" but those are long gone as I've used them.

All the best,
João
