@PeteM1, Welcome to HP Support Community!

 

Though the activation fails, you should still be able to print and scan from the computer. If you have issues, we can isolate and resolve it-

 

How is the printer connected to the computer?

Is there any antivirus/security software installed on the computer?

 

Meanwhile, Use HP Print and Scan Doctor

Download HP Print and Scan Doctor and run the program. It will automatically diagnose and fix any installation issues.
