Hi @MvGtef,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for reaching out. I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 8022 is stuck after a failed software update, displaying the "Critical system files..." message, and although the printer is detected in Device Manager with a WinUSB driver, the HP Firmware Update Tool is unable to detect it.

Please try the following steps:

  1. Disconnect the USB cable from the printer and restart both the printer and your computer.
  2. After both have restarted, reconnect the printer directly to a USB port on the computer. Avoid using a USB hub or docking station.
  3. Open Device Manager and confirm the printer appears without any warning icons.
  4. Close all HP applications, then run the HP Printer Update tool as Administrator (right-click the tool and select Run as administrator) and check if it detects the printer.

If the printer is still not detected by the update tool and continues to display the "Critical system files..." message, it indicates that the firmware recovery has not completed successfully and will require additional service.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
