HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 does not work after MacOS Big Sur upgrade,
Printer appears "green"on-line, but HP software on my machine indicates "printer not available" .
Already reinstalled drivers via HP Smart, Easy Start and nothing works.
Was anyone able to fix this issue and can you please share the steps?
Thanks,
Marcos

Hi @MarcosFL,
I'd like to help!
Try updating mac and printer firmware
To update the printer's firmware, refer - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware
To update Mac, try these steps - How to update the software on your Mac
Uninstall HP Easy Start
- Click on Spotlight icon and type HP Uninstaller or by opening HP Easy Start.
- Click on Continue to uninstall the software.
- When prompted for Password, type in your system password
- You can also uninstall by opening HP Easy Start.
Download HP Easy Start and install the printer.
- Download HP Easy Start and follow the on-screen to complete the installation.
You may also add the AirPrint printer to the Mac printer queue
Confirm you are using AirPrint by adding the printer in System Preferences.
- Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.
- Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, and then do one of the following steps.
- If your printer is listed, remove and re-add the printer to confirm it is set up for AirPrint. Click the printer name, click the minus sign "-" to delete the printer, click the plus sign "+"click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name and then continue to the next step.
- If your printer is not listed, click the plus sign, click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer, and then continue to the next step.
- Confirm AirPrint or Secure AirPrint displays in the Use or Print Using menu, and then click Add.
- Open a document or photo, click File, and then click Print.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

I have the same problem in a brand new 13" MBP that Catalina and then upgraded to Big Sur. I used https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Applications/HP_Easy_Start.app.zip 2.10.0.201112, from 11/12/2020, to be able to get all features like scan and fax features since Apple's default AirPrint driver was very limited. However, HP printer works via AirPrint. Its USB doesn't want to print, but can scan. We need USB drivers! 😞

HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911g. USB printing still doesn't work. AirPrint does. I noticed macOS' dmesg shows a lot of "HP Device Monito@: AppleUSBHostUserClient::openGated: could not open provider IOUSBHostInterface. provider already opened for exclusive access by HP Device Monito". Without HP's softwares and drivers installed, I don't see these lines.

To better assist you - Is there an antivirus software installed on your Mac? If yes, please try disabling it and check if it works.
While you respond to that, go to System Information to check the if the USB is detected or not -
a.) From the Apple menu, choose About This Mac.
b.) Click System Report.
c.) Under the Hardware heading on the left side of the System Information window, click USB. USB 3 devices appear under USB 3.0 Bus, and USB 2 devices appear under USB 2.0 Bus. The printer should be under the USB 2.0 Bus.
If the device is not detected, it may not be receiving enough power or it may be blocked by internet security software. You may also try other ports on the hub or a different cable.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

https://imgur.com/a/XiAtlCz for two screen captures. The printer is under USB3.1. How do I force USB2? MBP has USB-C ports. 😕 No to AV.

Try a different port and cable.
If the issue persists, run the disk utility on your computer-
1. Open Finder: Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility. Open it.
2. Select your Macintosh HD on the left side, then click Repair Disk Permissions along the bottom.
3. Let it finish (20 minutes or so), then close Disk Utility.
Let me know!

I already tried all 4 USB-C ports (two on left and right sides). I doubt it is the printer's USB cable since it had no problems on a 2012 MBP with macOS Mojave v10.14.6 and earlier versions. I don't see Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions option. Also, Apple people say it is HP's drivers and softwares. 😞
