HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

We changed our internet provider and for some reason my laptop (HP) would not connect to our printer, however my phone connects to it but only sometimes. I uninstalled everything with HP 8710's name on it because nothing was working (HP Smart, installing a new printer through the settings, etc., nothing). When I try to print something all I see is an option to print just from an HP OfficeJet Pro "FAX", but even when I try that it still doesn't work. When I try to install using HP Smart it keeps saying "it failed" although it does see the printer connected to the wifi. When I try to add a printer from Word a box pops up and says, "The Active Directory Domain Services is currently unavailable."  I'm at a loss and do not know what to do.

Thank you for anyone who can help.

@ktburgh, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

I understand you are not able to print from your computer. Do you get any errors while trying to connect the printer to the network?

Let us try these steps:

Restart the wireless router, the printer, and the PC

On the printer screen, go to Setup > Network Setup > Restore network settings

Go back to Network > Wireless > Wireless setup wizard and select your network.

  • Make sure the printer and the PC are connected to the same wireless network. Either 2.4 or 5GHz network.
  • If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both networks.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and fix any driver issue

Click here to download the file. Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and click on 'Fix printing'.

If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.

Use the HP Smart app to print and scan from your Win 10 PC

Click here to download and know more about the app.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

This did not work, however, I saw that the printer was finally listed in my programs list. I clicked on that and it gave me an option to install the printer. Anyway, that worked.

Thank you for your response.
