Thank you. Can't get back to the printer for a couple of weeks. I will definitely try this. I appreciate the help.

I've been having the same issue for three days now and I've tried all the suggestions and nothing works.  This is HP Tech Supports problem to solve.  Maybe it's time to look a buying another manufacturers printer.

Im Having the same problem - but I can't find the HP Smart App on my iMac to disable the automatic updates.

If this isn't resolved - I'm giving up on HP and moving to a different printer.

I just restored my printer factory settings and set it up again. I've had no problem in two days now.

Just an update to my above post:

I used the HP Smart app to turn off the firmware updates...so that works to get you out of the firmware loop...doesn't solve the long-term issue of why is the hardware is having an issue.  FYI my hardware is 9010 running on windows 11.

Just FYI ..I'm not the tech wizard nor the HP problem solver...just passing on how I turned off the firmware updates(finally)....

Not sure if it will work for you...but here goes....

the process I went thru is as follows:

1.  First I looked at all my apps-found "HPSmart" it in the HP section of apps...clicked on it.

If you don't have the app then you'll need to go to HP and download it.

2.  when the app opens up...it clearly s shows "HP Smart" with 9 Bubbles you can choose from

the last one is Printer settings. click on that

3.  That brings up a menu -that starts with "status"... the third item is "Advanced Settings"-click on that

4.  that brings up Office Jet Pro 9010 series-Embedded Web Service- find and click on "settings"

then click on "Security"...then on "Administrator Settings"

(FYI - my computer grayed out the menu and at the top said "connection not private....yada yada yada"

I clicked OK and the grey disappeared ..

5.  Then there was a LONG list of boxes that you can check or uncheck...just go to the bottom of that long list and

you will see "Printer Updates"  and two checked boxes....uncheck both boxes and then the "Apply" bubble below that.

6.  then exit out of the programs...

That stopped the firmware update loop for me....after multiple hours of confusing twist and turns --trying all the solutions proposed by the community...I'm on three days of printer working..and still seeing folks hitting the "I GOT A PROBLEM" trail here on the community.  I'm not that tech savvy so this might have some hickup for you but I thought I would offer it up ...for possible guidance....

I'm not the answer man nor the tech wizard...just one guy that muddled through and got my printer back... just sharing my journey...

Same here.  I became so aggravated, I unplugged the printer before I left work today.  Its really ridiculous.

I too could not find the same settings on my HP Smart App until I realized I need to sign in.

Once I signed in I was able to find the settings though it was not exactly as the same as a previous reply.

Here is where I found mine.

Choose "Settings" from the menu on the top of the page.

Administrator Settings

Now the "Enable/Disable" window is open, scroll down to the bottom and uncheck "All Firmware Updates" and "Only web...Updates", then click "Apply"

This seems to have fixed my issue, and I hope this helps yours too.

Chiming in to share my own path to success (or so I believe) after trying to leverage these helpful workarounds for a good bit. I had also tried tried to turn off updates through the printer LCD screen but I got an error that I could not change anything because it had been set up by the administrator (me). Cool.

HOT TIP: I was ONLY able to follow the steps to the Security/Administrator Settings using the **DESKTOP APPLICATION**. Do **not** use the mobile version of HP Smart app; it does not have the same functionality, navigation, or even perform as well as the desktop version. Even when  moving between sections of the mobile app, I kept seeing different information on whether or not I even had a printer associated with my account.

@HP--Where was the pre- and post-deployment testing on the last update? Even if someone really did sign off on this code change, if an issue was found that could not be immediately resolved, why, at a minimum, would you not roll back the change as part of problem management response? As someone who works in IT, this is embarrassing to the industry overall.

To get around this wile HP sit on their duff picking their collective nose, type in the printer's IP address in a browser window address bar. Ignore any warnings that might appear about an insecure page and get to what is the printer's home page.

Click the Setting tab at the top

Click the Security option on the left window

Click the Administrator settings

Scroll all the way to the bottom

Deselect All Firmware Updates

Done.

Now, this might impact future ink orders and whatever but'll get you past this bloody updating nonsense untie they (HP) fix it.

Good luck.
