Hi @drjaronson,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are facing an issue HP OfficeJet Pro 9015 will not download software update . Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

Let's perform a power drain:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle

Update the printer firmware

  • Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your product
  • Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Followed instructions but still no progress: display says “printer update could not be downloaded. Touch ‘retry’ to start download again.”
Have tried that several times w/o success.

Suggestions for next steps?

Thanks.

I'm having the same issue!

Same issue here - Even through the smart app I cannot get it to update - now I get some weird nginx message in my smart center.   Going to switch companies next time we need printers which may be tomorrow at this point.  Disappointed.

It appears from the multiple forum posts that HP is the issue here. Please correct.

Also, if you go to the software page as indicated, there is no firmware update listed, which, according to HPs website, indicates that there is no current firmware available for the product.

The title of this question is in regards to being unable to download the SOFTWARE update. However, in the instructions state after the steps of unplugging, etc. to:

  • Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your product
  • Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

My 30+ years in the computer industry identifies a software update as being different from a firmware update. Granted, printers have never been more to me than a device to print, but terminology is important. The message on the printer states "software", while the fix explanation provided by HP states "firmware". Is there a difference, because I am finding both firmware and software updates available on this help site?

In case it helps anyone, here is what I did to bypass the problem until HP fixes it on their end. I went into HP Smart, Advanced Settings for the printer, and turned off both Web Services and Instant Ink. Both will keep the printer checking for updates every few minutes. If you turn those off and then go to Printer Updates and click on "notify me of updates" or "don't check for updates" and click Apply, that will at least let the printer continuously work and print without constantly checking for updates. Then, hopefully, we'll get notification of the update that works so we can update it and change the settings back. Hope that helps!
