One of my clients recently got a new HP Probook 650 G8 and I cannot get her HP Officejet Pro 9020 series printer installed on it. The printer installs fine on older laptops but not on this one for some reason. I have removed/reinstalled the printer multiple times and the printer always errors out and doesn't install the print driver and produces an error "Handle is invalid". The printer is setup via ethernet on the network but I also tried installing the printer via USB and keep running into the same issue. I tried installing the printer using the HP Smart App and downloading the full feature software from HP's website. I am at a total loss on this one. As a side not I had this same issue with another client using the same model printer and the laptop was a Z book 14" G8. The firmware on the printer is current and I tried a factory reset on the printer as well. Is there some sort of compatibility issue with this printer and newer hardware ? I know I have encountered this error before when installing other HP printers and using the UPD instead of the regular print driver always installs and the printer functions fine. This printer is not compatible with the UPD. Any help would be much appreciated
thanks Todd

Welcome to the HP User Community.
At least one model in this G8 series was introduced in 2020 - not "that new", at least in the case of that Product Number / model.
What does that mean? Maybe nothing.
As a side note, when I opened the HP ProBook 650 G8 Notebook PC > Category Software, Drivers, and Firmware
I do find that the system supports Windows 11.
For both Windows 10 and Windows 11, there is a BIOS update.
You know these can be important - IF the BIOS (or any other drivers) need to be updated on the system, take care of that.
Example: HP BIOS and System Firmware (T72/T74)
What else?
Some ideas and check points...
If you have not done so,
- If the system is in need of Windows Updates, these should be applied first.
- Sure, make sure the Probook is running the Drivers / Updates you want installed. I don't care if you "update everything" - this is your system - update what you think is relevant to proper control and operation in your environment. I do recommend keeping the BIOS current - this (also my opinion) should be updated manually and by itself...
- Consider connecting the printer using its own static / manual IP Address and (of course) on the same Subnet.
- Restart everything, including the printer, the router, and the computer.
- Fully uninstall any existing printer software from the computer (Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features)
- Restart the computer and sign in
- Check and Remove - any lurking bits of printer software (See Check / Remove section later in this message)
If any "lurky bits" are removed as a result of the checks,
- Restart the computer and sign in
- Install the printer software
Details / How-to -/ Check - Remove / Examples
If the simple uninstall / restart / install has already been tried and does not work:
(then)
Uninstall the printer software from Programs and Features,
Restart the computer and sign in,
>>> Add the steps in section "Check and Remove" (included later in this message),
Install a fresh copy of the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software,
Restart the computer and sign in

Printer Assistant / HP Scan
The Full Feature Software should be installed and functional (working as expected).
If the full driver printer software is installed but not working correctly, it can be uninstalled / reinstalled.
Printer Software Check - Is the printer software installed?
Notes
When the full driver printer software is installed,
Find the printer software listed in Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features.
The installation of the full printer software adds two shortcut icons to the Desktop.
The Printer Assistant is named for the printer and provides access to Print , Scan , and Tools
HP Scan is named for itself and provides a direct call to the HP Scan software.

Printer software installed and listed >> Software is out of date or is not working
NOTE: If the printer software shows installed but is not working as expected, remove and reload the software.
NOTE: Windows 11
Windows Start > Search for Control Panel and open
Uninstall the printer software from Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features
Restart the computer and log in
What if?
If software will not uninstall, appears to be removed and is “still hanging around” after you uninstall / Restart...
Microsoft: Fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed
OR
Revo Uninstaller (Free version)
then
Restart the computer and log in
Reminder: If using USB, disconnect the USB printer cable between the printer and the computer before installing software. (Re)Connect the USB cable when instructed to do so near the end of the installation procedure.

The "offline" printer software can be installed using the Easy Start Software wrapper - use the newer version if more than one version is found. The Easy Start Software will find, download, and (hopefully) help you to select and install the full driver printer software.
