This printer will not print envelopes not matter what setup I choose. Then video on loading envelopes was straight forward. When trying to print an envelope I either get a no response action or a message that says "Printer needs Attention". What is the trick?

Hi @AZRR,

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 9135e will not print envelopes and shows “no response” or “Printer needs attention” when you try. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Verify the correct paper tray is selected
Load envelopes only in Tray 1 (main input tray) and adjust the paper guides snugly.
On the printer control panel, confirm Tray 1 is selected and not set to auto-switch.

Set the paper type and size on the printer
On the printer touchscreen, go to Tray Setup or Paper Setup.
Set the paper size to the exact envelope type (for example, #10 or DL) and paper type to Envelope.

Check print settings in the application
Open Print > Preferences from the program you’re printing from.
Set Paper Size to the same envelope size and Paper Type to Envelope or Plain Paper, then apply.

Turn off duplex and advanced features
Ensure “Print on both sides,” scaling, and borderless options are disabled.
Envelopes must print single-sided only to avoid feed errors.

Try printing a single envelope
Load only one envelope at a time for testing.
This reduces feed resistance and helps confirm whether the issue is mechanical or settings-related.

Update printer firmware
From the printer control panel or HP Smart, check for and install any firmware updates.
Firmware updates often improve envelope handling and tray detection.

Power reset the printer
Turn the printer off and unplug it from the wall for 60 seconds.
Plug it directly back in and restart to clear any internal tray or sensor errors.

Test from another application
Try printing an envelope from Word or a basic document editor.
This helps rule out application-specific formatting issues.

I hope this helps.
