I have an HP Office Jet 1012 printer which used to connect to my older MacBook Air.  I have the latest MacBook Air M3 and I can not connect the printer to the computer -- which would be using USBC cord.

Hi @ElyannaC,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To connect your HP OfficeJet 1012 printer to your MacBook Air M3, which uses a USB-C port, you'll need to follow these steps:

Steps to Connect HP OfficeJet 1012 to MacBook Air M3

Check Printer Compatibility:

  • Confirm that the HP OfficeJet 1012 printer is compatible with macOS on your MacBook Air M3. Older printers may require specific drivers or compatibility updates.

USB-C to USB-A Adapter (if needed):

  • Since the HP OfficeJet 1012 likely uses a USB-A connector (standard USB), you'll need a USB-C to USB-A adapter or cable. This adapter will allow you to connect the USB-A end of the printer cable to the USB-C port on your MacBook Air M3.

Connect the Printer:

  • Plug one end of the USB printer cable into the USB-A port on your HP OfficeJet 1012 printer.
  • Connect the other end of the USB printer cable to the USB-C to USB-A adapter.
  • Insert the USB-C end of the adapter into a USB-C port on your MacBook Air M3.

Printer Setup on macOS:

  • Once connected, macOS should automatically detect the printer if it's compatible. If not, you may need to download and install the latest drivers or software from the HP website.
  • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners on your MacBook Air M3.
  • Click the + button to add a new printer.
  • Select your HP OfficeJet 1012 printer from the list and follow the prompts to complete the setup.

Test Printing:

  • Print a test page or document to verify that the printer is correctly set up and printing from your MacBook Air M3.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
