I was having issues using the scan feature on my printer to scan directly to my laptop and was having to use Windows fax & scan which I am not a fan of. I made the mistake of reinstalling the drivers online as I had lost my install disk hoping to get the correct drivers to use the scan feature, now the new drivers default my printer to a fax machine and I am unable to print.

Any suggestions?

Try these steps -

1) In the search box, type "Printers & Scanners".
2) Click on "Devices and Printers" located on the right side.
3) Remove HP Fax and also make sure there's a green tick on the printer. Right click on your printer and click on "Set as default printer".

Keep me posted.

Thank you for the attempt but I have tried these drivers already and it defaults to the fax machine and does not print for me.

Welcome to HP support community.

Did you uninstall the printer driver from root level?

If not, follow the below steps:

Perform root level uninstallation to remove all the printer related software's.

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
