HP Officejet 4500n-z stopped being recognized via USB or wi-fi on a laptop, even when using HP Print and Scan doctor, yet it was recognized on another laptop.

The HP installation CD for the printer only showed "exit" when setup was launched.

I used the compatibility troubleshooter on setup.exe and chose Windows 8.  After that, multiple options appeared when I ran setup..

I tried uninstall of the printer from Windows 10 settings, but it didn't change anything.

I then did a complete uninstall from the CD setup program, which took a long time, and then did a complete install from the CD.  That fixed the problem.
