Hey, the solution worked perfectly for me, really weird, even more weird that it comes from HP employee LOL, but important is that it worked. Thanks a lot.

And you know what, this solution activates the automatic 2-faced printing, I thought my printer had problems, what a big bonus ^^

Thank you for outlining how to get the printer to print in colour!! I had tried everything and resigned to buy a new one . . but your directions fixed it.  Thank you, thank you

No offense to everybody involved, but this is a stupid fix.  It works, but this is stupid.

It also seems to be very common among either windows10 devices or Surface Pro devices.  This tells me it is ultimately a Microsoft problem, but HP found a work around.

What is really stupid is that you are the 83rd person to report this issue since this thread was opened on 4/2019 and they STILL haven't fixed the driver!! All they would have to do is rename the HP Envy 7640 driver because the first thing you do is look for an updated driver when you have a problem.

I agree with you. I wonder why HP did not implement a fix .. My first action was to look for an update of the driver, but my driver was up to date..

Then I found the solution on this user community provided by an HP employee, so why not just uopdate the driver ???

Good question...

To push people to buy a new printer ??

I tried these steps but when I select HP as the manufacturer, only the 4650 series comes up.  I  have already uninstalled and reinstalled the software but it didn't work.  The last time this happened, that works but this is a major pain just to try and get it to print color photos.  They all come out monochrome and I'm wasting ink.

In such case, you have to download the driver from internet.

Best regards

Dom

Actually, I downloaded the software to reinstall, which included the current driver.  However, I found the error was mine.  I skipped the basics including cleaning the cartridges because my HP app showed they were half full.  Seems the color cartridge was not printing all the colors probably because it has been sitting so long.  I replaced the color cartridge and that solved the problem.  Sorry to take up your time and thanks!

😦 you’re a wizard Harry.

jokes aside thank you so much for this really!

I wanted to use my Office Jet 4650 to scan.  I was told at Best Buy that i need to install a new driver to use the scanner.  I was given a handwritten list of steps to install the appropriate driver.  The result is that I still cannot scan and now can not print from my connected PC in color.  It does print color via the wifi connection on my phone, but not from my PC.

Today I loaded a new HP black ink and the printer says to reload it, repeatedly.  I have reloaded it many times,  unplugged the printer cord, also from the wall electric outlet.  Best Buy suggested that I put the old cartridge in and see if I get the same error message.  I do not get the same message but I also cannot as it is out of ink.  It must be the HP cartridge I bought at SAMS. Must I return the new cartridges?

                                                                             HELP!  I'm so frustrated.
