This printer has served me well for the last 3.5 years. The trouble began when I got a new Dell Inspiron laptop with Windows 10. At first, it worked just fine, and then a few months ago wouldn't connect via network. I connected via USB for awhile and then that quit working as well. It will still print via network from my i-phone and i-pad, but not my computer. I uninstalled the software and tried to reinstall. I tried downloading the driver from HP website but during install get a message saying i need a file HPwia2_OJ5740.dll that is on the original CD. I use the CD, and get a message saying there is no file like that on the cd. I have spent hours trying all the fixes suggested via HP Print and Scan doctor and windows troubleshooting. I'm going in circles. Can anyone help???? Thank you.

Hi,
Please try removing the currently installed software using the Microsoft Install and Uninstall troubleshooter below:
Once completing the uninstall, restart your PC and reinstall the latest software below:
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/oj5740/OJ5740_Full_WebPack_40.13.1176.exe
May you see any difference?
Please let me know the results,

I was sure that you had solved the problem. I followed your directions and successfully uninstalled the old software. I restarted my computer. I then used your link to download the new software and the screen message indicated the install was successful. Next, I went to add the printer to my devices. The computer recognized it on my network. However, when clicked "Add" , i get a message beneath the printer name saying the driver is unavailable. I went to my Apps list and the HP 5740 Help program has installed, but the driver has not. Do you have any other suggestions? I am completely baffled. I appreciate any additional assistance you can provide. Thank you.

You’re much welcome Kathy,
Try installing below update from Microsoft and restart the computer when you guided to do so:
Next, click Start > Setting (gear icon) > Apps and uninstall the HP Basic Device Software for your printer.
Ensure the latest firmware is installed on your printer:

Hello Again Shlami:
Once again, I thought we were on to something. i successfully downloaded the Microsoft update as you recommended. However upon retstart, a message popped up that said, "We couldn't complete the updates. Undoing changes. Don't turn off your computer." After a few minutes the laptop restarted. i can only assume the update wasn't successful. I went ahead and checked to make sure the latest firmware was installed on my printer. The message said that my printer had all the latest updates. I tried downloading the driver software again. It appeared to successfully install. I went to add the printer under devices. I was asked for the WPS which was displayed on my printer screen and then. .. . .once again. . ., "Driver Unavailable." I'm about ready to resort to a sledge hammer! Is this a hopeless case???
Thanks.
Kathy

Apologies for missing your last reply unintentionally!
Please click the Start button and then Settings and select Update & Security.
Click on View Update History and then on uninstall an Update.
Search for kb4567512 - can you see any result listed?
If not, that means the update has failed indeed.
Next, click The Start button > Settings > System & Security and click on Check for Update or the install button if the 2004 update is listed.
Be sure to install any available update first, windows updates might be crucial for the HP installation success.
Please let me know the results regarding the updates, and also what printers are currently listed under Devices and Printers on your PC.
