HP Officejet 5740 - Printing "Unclassified" pages
Each time I use the printer before it prints the page(s) I want, it prints out a page entitled Unclassified. I want to stop the printer printing this extra page as its a waste of time, paper and ink.

@BigMACDO, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
If your HP Officejet 5740 is printing an extra page titled "Unclassified" before your actual documents, it may be due to an incorrect driver setting or a default print setting. Here are steps you can take to resolve this issue:
Check Printer Settings:
- Access the printer settings on your computer by going to 'Devices and Printers'.
- Right-click on your HP Officejet 5740 and select 'Printing Preferences'.
- Navigate through the tabs to see if there's an option related to header or separator pages. Disable any settings that might be causing an extra page to print.
Driver Update:
- Ensure that your printer driver is up to date. You can download the latest driver from the HP Support website.
- Re-install the driver using the downloaded version to ensure there aren't any corrupt settings causing the extra print.
Check the Print Queue Settings:
- Some software applications might insert header or separator pages. Check if your application settings have any enabled options for separator pages.
- Look for any option in your print dialog box that indicates the printing of additional information pages before or after the print jobs.
Run HP Smart:
- Download and run the HP Smart. Follow the prompts to diagnose and fix common printing issues.
- Refer: Use Diagnose & Fix in HP Smart to repair common printing issues (Windows, macOS) | HP® Support
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Actually, I figured it out, myself, but I can verify your answer is basically correct. It was a setting that was turned on to tell the printer to print a cover page when none was needed. I turned that off and the problem was resolved. Thank you for responding to my question.
