We have an HP Officejet 7000 E809a Wide Format printer, and it is not printing in A3 format. A4 works fine.

We have already tried using the universal driver, but that didn’t help.

Our customers who have the same printer are experiencing the same issue.

In the settings, the A3 format is correctly selected everywhere. The printer pulls the paper in, but does not print, and only blank paper comes out.
We have already tried using a universal driver, but unfortunately, it didn't help

Could you please assist us, as we are currently stuck?

Additionally, we are unable to install any drivers or firmware, as this is no longer possible on the HP website.

We would greatly appreciate your support.

Hi @Kautenburger_IT,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Officejet 7000 E809a Wide Format printer is not printing in A3, even though A4 works correctly and the A3 size is selected everywhere. Let’s go through a few targeted checks to isolate what’s blocking A3 output on this model.

Confirm the paper is loaded in the correct tray and orientation
The HP Officejet 7000 only supports A3 from the main input tray, not manual or secondary feeds.
Load A3 paper flush to the left guides and make sure the width guide is firmly touching the paper.

Verify the driver is using the HP Officejet 7000–specific paper source
In Printer Properties → Printing Preferences, explicitly select the tray as “Main Tray” (not Auto).
Auto-selection can default to A4 logic and cause blank A3 feeds.

Check print application page size vs driver page size
Ensure the application (PDF viewer, CAD software, browser, etc.) is also set to A3, not “Same as printer.”
A mismatch between application A3 and driver A4 can result in the printer feeding paper but not printing.

Disable borderless and scaling options
Turn off “Borderless printing,” “Fit to page,” and any custom scaling.
The Officejet 7000 cannot process certain borderless A3 jobs and will eject blank pages instead.

Test with a simple Windows test page resized to A3
Use Printer Properties → Print Test Page, then modify the page size to A3.
If this prints blank, the issue is driver-side rather than application-specific.

Use Windows inbox driver instead of Universal Print Driver
Remove all HP drivers completely, then re-add the printer using Windows Update’s built-in driver (not UPD).
The Universal driver often fails A3 handling on older wide-format inkjets.

Check printer preferences for “Maximum Printable Area”
Set printable area to “Normal” instead of “Maximum.”
Some firmware revisions fail silently when maximum margins are used on A3.

Power-reset to clear formatter memory
Turn the printer off, unplug power for 60 seconds, then reconnect directly to a wall outlet.
This clears stuck print-format states that commonly affect large-format jobs.

I hope this helps.
