I am unable to print to officejet pro 7720. It says in printer devices - driver is unavailable. I have tried many options to remove it all manually and reboot and reinstall either using wireless connection or USB and none seem to work. When i look deeper in the device manager and view the printers and print queue it doesnt show up in the list! which i guess is the issue. I can get it to appear after the software install under the imaging devices but no where else so it will not print.
I have stopped and started printer spooler, deleted temp files and removed the printers under c:\windows\system32\spooler.....
Also when i try to install it manually it comes up in the add printer wizard as
unable to instgall HP xxxx series PCL-3, type 4 - user mode, x64 driver - element not found
any help would be much appreciated as the printer works fine using the wireless direct option to a mobile phone...
thanks
janet

Welcome to the HP Community
Use HP Print and Scan Doctor to check connectivity
Download a special version of HP Print and Scan Doctor.
Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.
Run HPPSdr.exe from the download location on your computer.
Once HP Print and Scan Doctor opens, click Start, and then select your printer.
If your printer is not in the list, turn it off and on and then click Retry.
If there is a connection problem, follow the instructions in HP Print and Scan Doctor.
If a screen prompts you to turn on printer updates, click Yes.
If a screen prompts you to make your printer the default printer, click Yes.
Try to print.
If the issue persists, I recommend you delete the driver at the root level and Install the drivers, follow the steps below:
Remove the USB if connected
1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose `Delete' or `Remove Device'
6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s")
8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
Then, Click on this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-officejet-pro-7720-wide-format-all-in-... to download and install the HP OfficeJet Pro 7720 Wide Format All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Drivers.

Hi Raj1788
Thanks for your detailed response however it’s not so much that the printer is offline but the fact the driver won’t install onto the laptop. A colleague has tried the scan doctor and i have also tried your suggestion of removing the printer from the root!
Followed all of these instructions and then rebooted the laptop and reinstalled the printer from the full web pack download and it comes up with the same error driver unavailable so it’s an issue with the software on the HP laptop unfortunately! It feels like I am going round in circles! 😞
Ps it also loads the driver and works fine on a different laptop
thanks

Create a local user or administrator account in Windows 10 then try installing the driver.
Refer to this link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4026923/windows-10-create-a-local-user-or-administrator-acc... to Create a local user or administrator account in Windows 10
If the issue persists, I would personally suggest you contact our HP Support.

Was a solution finally found for error? I have the same error with a 7740. Printed normally, but after update microsoft (so it looks like) I cannot reinstall printer driver. Element not found. If i install other printer 5540, no problem.

Hiya.. unfortunately i ended up chatting to HP support on whatsapp and they recommended I format the laptop!.. I thought this was a little severe but of course yes it worked and the first thing i did want install the printer and all ok...
It did not work when i created a new user profile and did it that way!... so sledge hammer to crack a nut but go there in the end and I hope you do too! 🙂

Windows 10 updates keep corrupting the scan option of my HP OfficeJet Pro 7720 All-in-one Format. I then have to download the HP print driver to fix. The HP technical staff are no help at all. All they do is download the driver for a temporary fix. I can do that myself. I have turned off the windows updates to keep this from happening. HP contacts have told me twice that in the HP Printer hardware. They replaced the printer and the new one has the same problem. Now they wish to replace it..Whose responsibility is it to create a permanent fix - HP or Microsoft?
