Since the latest Firmware update, the printers display screen no longer auto-dims or shuts off like it did out-of-box. The printers display screen displays are supposed to turn off after a few seconds of inactivity yet this just stays on 24-7. all printers are with displays have a standard of them turning off automatically and a touch or any activity brings them back on.
this printer should be no different.

As feedback, there needs to be better energy settings. the autoshut off is set at 20m of inactivty, id argue the screen autoshut off should be much sooner then that like 5mins, its just a display. its not like the entire printer is shutting off which takes time to boot up.

HP please address these issues!

(1) fix the bug the lastest firmware cuased
(2) allow the printer to turn off the display sooner, 20m is too long.

Hello @LOVEFIRE ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Firstly, I should admit that i like your username!

You’re absolutely right to flag this, and your expectations are reasonable. What you’re describing is not normal behavior for HP touchscreen printers and does point to a firmware regression rather than a configuration issue.

Your feedback is 100% valid

You raised two distinct and important points, both of which HP should address:

1️⃣ Fix the firmware regression

The display must return to auto-dimming / auto-off behavior after short inactivity, as it did prior to the update.

This is a functional regression, not a feature request.

2️⃣ Improve energy/display controls

Even when working correctly, the display timeout should be:

  • Independent from printer auto shut-off

  • Configurable (e.g. 30 sec / 1 min / 5 min)

A display does not require a 20-minute timeout. As you said:

It’s just a display — not the entire printer booting down.

That’s a very reasonable argument. We would definitely take this forward! Thank you for bringing this up to our notice.
