Before retiring, I setup printers and fixed printer driver issue. I was a Network Administrator and Windows problem fixer!
My husband has the same HP Desktop as I, same OS, and never lost connection to this printer.
Printer driver is listed but says "unavailable".
I start HP Smart and the printer has green online indicator. When I click on it, it says add another printer. Then when I need to add the printer IP address, that does not work. Also, tried adding printer through settings.
I have tried so many things for a month.
I truly appreciate your insight!

Hi @Gabriel7777 ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you've already taken several troubleshooting steps, but let's go through some additional troubleshooting methods to try to resolve the issue:
- Restart Devices: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues. Try restarting both your computer and the printer.
- Check Connections: Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your computer and the network if it's a network printer. Also, verify that the printer is turned on.
- Update Drivers: Visit the HP website and download the latest drivers specifically designed for Windows 11 for your HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer. Install the drivers and see if the issue persists. Software and Drivers for HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer - N911a
- Remove and Reinstall Printer: Remove the printer from your list of installed printers in Windows settings, then try adding it again. Sometimes, a fresh installation can resolve driver-related issues.
- Check Firewall and Antivirus Settings: Sometimes, firewall or antivirus settings can interfere with printer connectivity. Make sure that your firewall or antivirus software is not blocking communication with the printer.
- Run Printer Troubleshooter: Windows has built-in troubleshooters that can help diagnose and fix printer-related issues. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot, then select the Printer troubleshooter and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Reset Printer: You can try resetting the printer to its default settings. Refer to the printer's user manual for instructions on how to do this.
- Check for Windows Updates: Ensure that your Windows 11 operating system is up to date. Sometimes, system updates can include fixes for compatibility issues with printers.
- Check Router Settings: If the printer is connected via Wi-Fi, check your router settings to ensure that it's not blocking the printer's IP address or ports.
