I have a problem with my printer. After a factory reset, the printer starts with the setup wizard every time and I have to enter the date and time. After that I am prompted to insert the duplex unit. At the top right of the display you can see that there are more setup pages to come, but I immediately end up in the main menu and there is an exclamation mark by the ink icon. When I select it, the fill levels are displayed and I could print a report. Nothing happens when selecting this option! The printer does not print anything! No test page or any other reports. How can I fix this error?

Next issue: even if I set up the wirless setting the printer is not found in local network. I set up a fixed ip address.

Many thanks in advance!

@stesofeu, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand you are not able to use the printer. Let us try these steps:

Try making a standalone copy from the flatbed glass and check if that works. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.

On the printer screen, go to Setup > Network Setup > Restore network settings

Go back to Network > Wireless > Wireless setup wizard and select your network.

  • Make sure the printer and the PC are connected to the same wireless network. Either 2.4 or 5GHz network.
  • If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both networks.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Sorry for my late response. In the meanwhile I replaced the print head by an used one and the printer works.

I remeber the printer showed in the verry beginning of this issue the well known no-print-head-or-print-head-damaged-error.

I am really sure HP switches this error active after recognising several times using third party cartridges. In EU there's a regulation that printers have to accept non-original cartridges. Thats why HP updated the firmware in the past! But in order to frustrate their customers they now do not say printer does not accept the third party cartidges but switches off the print head in total!

So I am sure either this HP OJP 8620 is my last HP product!

The issue you had mentioned in your initial post is about network connectivity. Is that resolved?

HP does not recommend the use of non-HP ink cartridges. It may or may not work. HP cannot guarantee its functionality.

Glad to know that the printer is working fine after replacing the printhead.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.

Thanks for your reply.

After replacing the print head and restarting the wizzard it was finished.

Its just funny: after several years using 3. party cartridges the print head suddenly broke after putting in a new 3. party cartirdge WITHOUT any print test. Even the "pumping sounds" were missed... The printer just recognises the "bad" cartridges.

It's OK that you have to write pro HP, you're an employee. But the www is full of user messages whose print heads got a sudden deathin in a very similar way to mine.

HP sells a print head and ink cartridges set for about 150 EUR. Buying the ink set alone will cost round about 100 EUR. Why don't you sell a print head without cartridges for 50 EUR?

@stesofeu

I understand your concern. However, to initialize the new printhead, setup ink cartridges are required. Hence, printheads are shipped with setup ink cartridges.

The setup ink cartridges are not available in stores.

Keep us posted for any other assistance.
