My printer worked fine on Thursday. Friday it will not print anything I send from the computer. It copies fine so the printhead is working. It has plenty ink but off line. I have run Print doctor several time & seems to show they fix the Que but it still does not print. It has printed the test page twice but then does not print & goes off line. I am using an a cable. (as I can use word when internet down). We did have thunderstorms & wind so I don't know if something in ATT but my wi-fi for my cell works fine. Also works fine fir Amazon Fire TV. I have reinstalled the printer several times. It been 4 days now & after spending most of yesterday to no avail or solution. I went to bed in tears last night. Warranty expired. I don't know where to go from here.. This is only computer printer has ever know. Nothing changed. I am ready to give up but have a $150 in new ink cartilages.

Welcome to the HP Community.
I am sorry you are stuck.
I cannot tell from your description whether you want to continue to use the USB cable connection from printer to computer or whether you are now trying to set up the software to use your Wireless.
Wireless "offline" is different from the printer connected to computer via the USB cable.
If you want to continue to use the USB connection,
Reminder
Disconnect the USB cable between the printer and the computer before you install the full driver printer software.
NOTE:
If you are using USB, know that the HP Smart application needs a Wireless (or wired Ethernet) connection. Ignore mention of the HP Smart application if you are using USB.
The full driver printer software does not require sign-in to use the software nor does it require the printer to be connected Wireless (or Wired Ethernet).
=====================================================================================
Printer Software and Printer Application
Install either the HP Smart Application first OR install the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software first.
No wrong way - be sure to install both to have "full coverage" and access to your printer features.
The full driver printer software supports printing and scanning for Office documents, PDF, Photos (Images), and other print or scan software. (Print Assistant and HP Scan)
HP Smart - Windows - provides scanning and printing for PDF and Photos / images with options in More Settings for Shortcuts and other settings.
============================================================================
>>> Check / Install the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software
The full driver provides the foundation on which other programs and printing software depend.
Preparation - Install Full Driver Printer Software
If you have not done so,
In addition to the HP Smart application,
Install the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software for the printer.
HP Smart and other print software / applications benefit from having the full driver installed.
Printer Software Check
Notes
If the full driver printer software is installed, you will see the printer listed in Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features.
The installation of the printer software adds two shortcut icons to the Desktop.
The Printer Assistant is named for the printer and provides access to Print , Scan , and Tools
HP Scan is named for itself and provides a direct call to the HP Scan software.

Printer software not installed - OR - (still) installed but not working?
NOTE: If the printer software shows installed but is not working as expected,
Uninstall the printer software from Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features
Restart the computer and log in
What if?
If software will not uninstall, appears to be removed and is “still hanging around” after you uninstall / Restart...
Microsoft: Fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed
OR
Revo Uninstaller (Free version)
then
Restart the computer and log in
Reminder: If using USB, disconnect the USB printer cable between the printer and the computer before installing software. (Re)Connect the USB cable when instructed to do so near the end of the installation procedure.
Install a fresh copy of the Full Feature Software / Full Driver printer software
Restart the computer and log in
Method - Use the Easy Start Wrapper to Install the Full Feature / Full Driver Software
For printers that support the option,
Use the Easy Start wrapper to install and configure the printer software.
- Home Page - HP Easy Start
- Open Category Software and Drivers
- Topic: Software-Utility
- Download-and-Save the current version of the Easy Start wrapper to install your print software
- If using USB: Disconnect the USB cable between the printer and computer before installing the software.
- Right-Click on the downloaded package and "Run as Administrator" to start the installation
- When asked, Select to install the “Full Driver” / “Full Feature Software”
- If using USB: Connect the cable when instructed to do so (near the end of the installation process).
- After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in.
Notes >> Easy Start... The Journey
- Full Administrator Rights are required to complete the HP Software installation.
- About 2/3 of the way through the setup, you will be given the opportunity to select the software - select the "Full Driver" set (as opposed to the basic driver or other application).
- You can skip / ignore suggestion(s) that you add the HP Account – you’ll need the account at some point, for now, you can skip this suggestion (as many times as it insists it’s a good idea) during the full driver software installation.
- If you see it, you can skip / ignore suggestion(s) regarding Instant Ink subscription. Instant Ink subscription is NOT mandatory.
- If the installation completes and then wants to loop around again, X out of the repeat menu / message to install again.
- Full driver includes print and scan functions supported by your printer and provides the printer features on which other applications / software might depend.

I had the smart ware, the print doctor. I just now removed it. It was using an ethernet cable. I just uninstalled all printer software, fax, everything. I will start anew. I have the cable unplugged, the electric unplugged. Am going to start from square one. I will had done all the steps you described. Starting over seems like my only option. I will let you know. Thanks you for helping. Karolina

Hello It was a very difficult day. After removing everything from the computer It took forever to get it back on. I was very frustrated. Tried over & over again. Try adding printer. Could not find WPS by reading dozens of articles on line. Tried everything. No dice. finally around midnight I tried to load manually. Well I don't know what I did but went to software & drivers & clicked on each thing to download. At first not so good then one of them something happened, finally recognized printer & did automatedly. Just before 1 am everything was working. At that point I went to bed. I just went on and everything seems to be working today. In the end I don't know what caused it. I did not have any windows updates during that period of time. I don't know if Norton caused it or spy hunter (both I have used for the life of the computer). I sincerely appreciate all you suggested. It is hooked up with the ethernet cable. I don't print from any device except the computer. I use a cell for texting only as hearing impaired & don't hear on cell. I am praying it stays fixed or at least till I use up all this new ink.. as I spent 5 whole days trying to fix. Respectfully,
Kira

I am glad its working. It should never have been this difficult, I think.
I misinterpreted what you meant when you said you were using a cable to connect :
"I am using an a cable. (as I can use word when internet down)."
I took that to mean that you are using a USB cable between the printer and the computer as a means to connect the printer without having the printer on the network. When you are using THIS type of cable, you would disconnect the USB cable between the printer and the computer before you install printer software. USB does not connect your printer to the network and is not dependent on a network or Internet connection. For example, it would be a usable connection when your Internet is down.
An Ethernet cable is a different kind of Wired connection. An Ethernet cable connects the printer to your network router. When you are using THIS type of wired connect, you do NOT disconnect the printer from the network for the purpose of installing software. On printers that support the option, Ethernet is generally considered a preferred connection method.
If the router has a tiny WPS button, it can be used to send a Wireless signal to the printer - an invitation to connect wirelessly. WPS is not used with a wired Ethernet network connection nor is WPS used with a USB cable connection. Not all routers even have a WPS button.
When you have the time, there is information available.
The User Guide includes a chapter on connecting your printer.

What else?
Yes, your security software can block installing various types of software.
Norton, in particular, can be enthusiastic to the point of causing occasional problems letting you do what you want. Norton is not bad security software, of course, it cannot always tell that what you are doing is something you should be doing. The default in this case is to "block" the activity. Like other security software, you can set Norton to "allow" certain programs if you need to do so.
I've heard of Spy Hunter - I've not had software of this type on my computers for a lot of years. I cannot offer any advice on this or anything similar.
How long will the installation last?
No way to tell whether or when you have trouble with printer software. So much is dependent on Windows not doing something that interrupts the ability of the other installed software to do its job. Windows does usually take good care of the "other programs" on the system - it is also true that sometimes a Windows Update will complete disrupt other software, including that software that runs the printer.
