Hello - I'm trying to print labels using the Avery template L7160 - A4. The labels line up perfectly in the template in 'print preview' but are misaligned vertically once they are printed.

I have selected A4 paper. Any ideas on what I need to do or what printer settings need changing?

Many thanks,

Nick

Welcome to the HP Community --

The printer is capable of the accuracy needed, including handling of the margins.

That said, the printer is normally unaware of what it is printing beyond accepting and translating the data to printer language and then printing the results on the paper.

If you are not already doing so, you might have better luck printing the completed template as a PDF file as opposed to printing the original Word document.

The extent to which you can manipulate the data -- and the print job settings -- depends on your Operating System / version and (consequently) on the software or application(s) available on that platform.

If the plain paper setting is not working, try selecting a different paper type, perhaps Thick or Brochure Matte.

If all else fails, you might want to use a custom print size setting.   What?  Not sure, a couple of percent this or that size of actual size, perhaps.

Embedded Web Server - EWS - Tray and Paper

Paper Size = A4

Paper Type = Thick or Brochure Paper as available in your paper type list

Example

EWS > HP Document / How-to

Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)

EWS – Browser – Tray and Paper Management

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Settings > Preferences > Tray and Paper (Management)

Select / Adjust settings for Paper Size / Type

Model Dependent:  Advanced section

Click Apply to save changes

Example - Embedded Web Server - EWS - Tray and Paper

Relevant to supported versions of Windows -- Full Feature Software installed

Download, Save, Edit, Save Avery Template L7160

Example - Word Template

Example - Adobe Reader DC - Print - PDF - L7160 - A4

Thanks for your reply. The PDF on it's own didn't sort it but when I tried to print the pdf one of the print options that popped up was 100% and once I did that it worked! That option wasn't available when printing direct from Word.

However as in your screenshot above the sticker outlines are still there in the pdf version - but not in the word misaligned printed version. Any idea how I get rid of the sticker outlines before I pdf it?

Many thanks,

Nick

You are welcome.

Progress.

Update - Add Word Scale information

``````````````````````````````````
 Word – Document Scale
Trouble with labels and possibly with other documents that include mixed content types:
Document Scale
There is a setting in Word that will "scale" a document for Letter / A4 paper.
If you are having alignment issues with your document (for example, labels, bottom of page chopped), UNCHECK this setting.
When printing directly from within Word
Setup:
Word > FileOptions > Advanced
In Section Print (about 2/3 of the way down)
UNCHECK "Scale content for A4 or 8.5 x 11" paper sizes
Click OK to save changes
Original Content
We are likely using different versions of similar software.
I am based in Windows 11
Microsoft Office Professional 2021
The Adobe Reader Software that I generally use is (of course) the standard Windows version.
Interesting that "actual" is not 100%.
The discrepancy might be due to the original Avery download Word document structure -- the old ".doc" format is just a little different than the newer .docx format.
Example - Original Avery .doc download file structure
Word document > File > Info > Click "Convert" inside the Compatibility mode.
Not sure why the PDF print includes cell outlines.
The samples are views from the template document as it displays during print setup.
Text borders do not (should not) print unless the original document (Word) includes the "text box" outline.
?  If I find something useful in that context, I will post back.
