HP Officejet Pro 9020 Series
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I connected the HP Officejet Pro 9020 Series Printer with Network cable.

I dowloaded the latest full software package from HP Website.

I installed the software and found the connected printer.

During the setup a White graphics page appears without any progress circle or indication.

I cannot go futher with the installation.

What do i have to do now.

I tried the installation on a HP Probook and it does the same.

I upgraded the firmware on the HP Officejet Pro 9020 Series to latest version.

I tried the HP Printer and Scan doctor - I get a device manager error and driver error.

Ask me to restart to fix the problem but nothing is fixed.

Hi @NW-IQ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are encountering issues with the installation of the HP OfficeJet Pro 9020 Series printer software, especially when it stalls at a blank white screen, follow these troubleshooting steps:

Let's perform a power drain:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle

Uninstall Existing HP Software:

  • Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
  • Uninstall any HP printer software related to the OfficeJet Pro 9020 Series.
  • Restart your computer.

Disable Antivirus and Firewall:

  • Temporarily disable any antivirus software and firewall to avoid conflicts during installation.
  • Remember to enable them again after the installation process.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Run HP Print and Scan Doctor again to diagnose and fix issues.
  • If it suggests restarting, do so and re-run the tool.

Download and Install HP Smart App: HP Smart

  • Instead of the full software package, try using the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store. This app can sometimes bypass installation issues present in the full software suite.
  • Install the HP Smart app and follow the prompts to add your printer.

Run the Installer as Administrator:

  • Right-click on the downloaded installer file and select Run as administrator.
  • Follow the installation prompts to see if this resolves the issue.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Ensure that your Windows 10 is up to date.
  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.

Clear Temporary Files:

  • Clear temporary files that might be causing conflicts.
  • Press Win + R, type %temp%, and press Enter. Delete all files in the temporary folder.

Use HP Easy Start:

  • Download and use the HP Easy Start utility, which is a simpler setup tool provided by HP.
  • You can download it from the HP Support website. HP Easy Start

Manually Add the Printer:

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Click Add a printer or scanner and let Windows search for your printer.
  • If it finds the printer, follow the on-screen instructions to add it.

Check Device Manager for Driver Issues:

  • Open Device Manager and look for any yellow exclamation marks next to your printer or other devices.
  • If found, right-click on the device and select Update driver.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
