Hi @johndith

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Officejet Pro 8710 printer is locked, and you no longer have wireless access because the Wireless Setup Wizard is locked by the person who initially set up the printer. This is a common scenario where the printer settings have been password-protected to prevent unauthorized access or changes.

Here's a step-by-step guide to help you unlock the Wireless Setup Wizard and restore wireless access to your printer.

1. Check for Admin Password

If the printer’s settings are locked, there may be an admin password set by the person who initially configured the printer. If you know or can get the password, you can use it to access the wireless setup.

To unlock the printer (if there’s a password):

  1. On the printer's control panel, press the Home button.
  2. Go to Setup (the wrench icon).
  3. Select Network Setup or Wireless Settings.
  4. If prompted for a password, enter the password you have. If you don’t know it, proceed to the next steps.

2. Reset the Printer to Default Settings

If you don’t know the password or the settings are completely locked, you can reset the printer to its factory default settings. This will erase any custom settings, including the password and wireless network settings, but it will allow you to reconfigure the printer.

To reset the HP Officejet Pro 8710:

On the printer’s control panel, press the Home button.

Navigate to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Defaults or Restore Network Defaults (depending on the firmware version).

Confirm the reset by following the on-screen prompts.

Note: Restoring the network defaults will reset the printer’s network settings and clear any existing wireless network configurations.

3. Reconfigure the Printer’s Wireless Settings

After resetting the printer to factory settings, you’ll need to reconnect it to your Wi-Fi network.

To reconnect the printer to Wi-Fi:

  1. On the printer’s control panel, tap Wireless or Wireless Settings.
  2. Select Wireless Setup Wizard.
  3. The printer will search for available Wi-Fi networks. Select your network from the list.
  4. Enter your Wi-Fi password to reconnect the printer to your network.

I hope this helps.

My apologies for this late response. This solution did not work because when I go to setup and try to restore, I constantly get the same msg that the settings are locked. Thus no opportunity to enter any password.

However, I got my printer communicating again by pressing the return button on my printer screen a few times and then going through the restore procedure you mentioned.

In any case thanks for reaching out.
