I understand the error you're encountering, Call to DriverPackageInstall returned error -536870329, indicates an issue with the driver installation process for your HP ColorLaserJet MFP M278-M281 printer on Windows 10 (64-Bit). This error code often relates to problems with the driver package itself, permissions, or conflicts with existing drivers.

 

Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

 

Uninstall Previous Drivers:

  • Press Windows + R, type devmgmt.msc, and press Enter to open Device Manager.
  • Locate your printer under the "Printers" section, right-click it, and select Uninstall device.
  • Check the box for "Delete the driver software for this device" if prompted, then click Uninstall.

Remove Old Printer Entries:

  • Press Windows + R, type control, and press Enter to open the Control Panel.
  • Navigate to Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click on your printer and select Remove device.

Clean Up Driver Store:

  • Open a Command Prompt as an Administrator. You can do this by searching for cmd, right-clicking on "Command Prompt", and selecting Run as administrator.
  • Type pnputil /enum-drivers and press Enter to list all installed drivers.
  • Find entries related to your HP printer (look for hpzead2a4_x64.inf or similar), note their published name, and remove them using the command pnputil /delete-driver <published name> /uninstall.

Restart Your Computer.

Download the Latest Drivers:

  • Visit the HP Support website and enter your printer model (HP ColorLaserJet MFP M278-M281).
  • Download the latest full-feature driver package for Windows 10 (64-Bit).

Install the Driver as Administrator:

  • Right-click the downloaded driver package and select Run as administrator.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Check Windows Update:

  • Press Windows + I to open Settings.
  • Go to Update & Security and click Check for updates.
  • Install any pending updates and restart your computer if required.

Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor: HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose and fix any installation issues.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may consider performing a clean boot to eliminate any potential software conflicts:

  • Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
  • In the System Configuration window, go to the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, and click Disable all.
  • Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager.
  • Disable all startup items.
  • Restart your computer and try installing the printer driver again.
