Some times back i set a login credentials to my printer HP LaserJet pro M201dw, now I have forgotten the password and I need to change the printer's IP. Whenever I try to change the IP am prompted to enter the credentials of which i don't remember. Whenever I try factory reset using Cancel and Right buttons still i see the secure displayed as the printer initialization starts and the printer do not return to default after the process. Kindly any help/ advice shall be appreciated.

@TassoFlex, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the HP LaserJet pro M201dw.

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution. We hope our assistance has been helpful!

Forgetting the login credentials for your HP LaserJet Pro M201dw can indeed be challenging, especially when you need to change settings like the IP address. Although you've tried a factory reset using the Cancel and Right buttons, it seems the secure lock is still active. Below are some steps and advice that might help resolve your issue:

Steps to Reset Printer Credentials

  1. Using HP Smart Install Tool:

    • If available, use the HP Smart Install Tool through a USB connection to access or reset the printer settings. This tool might allow you to manage the printer's settings without needing the forgotten password.
  2. Printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS):

    • Access the printer's Embedded Web Server via a web browser. If you can connect your computer directly to the printer via Ethernet or USB, you might be able to access the network settings by visiting the printer's IP address in a web browser.
    • Note that this usually requires credentials, but it's worth a try in case it offers an option to reset or retrieve the credentials.
  3. Access Through HP Software:

    • If you have the HP software installed, check for any utilities that might offer password reset or a way to change security settings. Some HP utilities can provide access to certain reset features.
  4. Printer Reset via Menu:

    • Review the printer’s manual for any hidden menu options. Some printers have maintenance menus that can be accessed with specific button combinations during startup.

I hope this helps!

Take care and have an amazing day!
