Hello everyone,

I have a problem with my HP Photosmart 475 (Q7011A).

When I power it on, the HP Invent logo appears and the progress bar at the bottom keeps moving. After a few minutes, the screen changes to a pink background showing Error Code: 00000003.

I have already tried powering it on without the ink cartridge, without any memory cards inserted, and after performing several power resets, but the behavior is always the same.

Has anyone experienced this issue or knows what Error Code 00000003 means or how to solve it? I think is something like "booting/starting issue" but no to much data on the web.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Pull the Internal Battery (Crucial for Photosmart 400 series)Unlike most printers, the HP Photosmart 475 has a compartment for an optional internal backup battery. If a battery is left inside, a standard power cord pull won't fully clear the corrupted error memory.

  • Turn off the printer power.
  • Unplug the power cord from the back.
  • Flip the printer over, open the battery compartment cover, and completely slide out the internal battery.
  • Leave the printer completely dead (no cord, no battery) for at least 5 full minutes to force the motherboard to lose its memory state.
  • Reinsert the battery, plug the power cable directly into a wall outlet, and turn it back on

Thank you very much for your quick response!

I have already tried leaving the printer completely disconnected from power for several hours, so it was fully discharged before powering it on again, but unfortunately the problem remains exactly the same.

The only difference is that I no longer have the optional internal battery (I lost it), so all of my tests have been performed without it installed.

Unfortunately, it still boots to the HP Invent screen and then ends up showing Error Code 00000003.

That is not good.

Here is the official parts list for the product ID Q7011B

Ebay has a lot of parts.

Disassemble and get the part number for the PCB and see if you can find that board using google or bing

You could ask over here for advice

Look at the PCB for bad capacitors or damage.  Take a picture and post it here.

Thank you for your help.

I opened the printer and, visually, all the PCBs seem to be in good condition. I don’t see any obviously damaged components, burned areas, or bad capacitors. Do you notice anything unusual?

The main board appears to be marked B857 REV.3A.

I also noticed that the printer has a 1.5 GB internal memory/storage module. I assume the firmware is stored there, or at least part of the system software. Is that correct?

If the firmware is corrupted, is there any way to obtain the original firmware image and rewrite/reflash it, or is that practically impossible for this model?

I did not know they made disk drives that size.  It is a mechanical drive that is 1 inch square and is may have mechanical problems and / or bad sectors.

That printer was released in 2005 and that disk is probably 20 years old and worn out.  I suspect the firmware is not the problem.  Likely the firmware cannot be loaded from the disk drive.

Can the drive be removed?  If it uses the same connector as a compact flash  possibly it could be attached to a PC using an adapter and you could run the windows scan and repair tool on it.

Good Luck!
