HP 6978 printer, DESKTOP-NCGLDOV
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I cannot download the printer driver.  I think that is what I need to do.  I can print from phone ap or e-mail, crappy email name BTW, but not directly from the computer.  I don't have a cable so i figured, why not do it wireless.  But,  and when I try to add the printer it says unavailable.

Please help!

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Connecting the printer to a wireless network and Installing HP Driver may resolve this issue. Let us try these steps:

Step 1: Connect the printer to the wireless network

  1. From the home screen of your printer control panel, touch the Wireless icon .

  2. Touch the Setup icon .

  3. Touch Restore Network Defaults or Restore Network Settings, and then touch Yes to confirm your selection.

  4. After the default network settings are restored, touch the back arrow, touch Wireless Settings, and then touch Wireless Setup Wizard.

The printer searches for available networks.

  5. Touch the name of your wireless network.

  6. Type the WEP or WPA key (network password), and then touch Done.

Note: Make sure the printer and the computer are on the same wireless network. This printer supports only 2.4GHz network.

Step 2: Clean uninstallation of Pre-installed HP drivers(perform this step only if a HP driver is already installed for this printer )

  1.  In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
  2.  Select your HP Printer
  3.  Select Uninstall
  4.  In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
  5.  In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
  6.  Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
  7.  Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
  8.  Click on the “Drivers” tab
  9.  Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
  10.  Select Ok
  11.  Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
  12.  Close Devices and Printers, restart the computer.

Step 3: Click here to download HP Full-featured driver.

Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and follow the on-screen instructions.

Let me know how this goes.
