Hi @JOHNPMAC,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Officejet Pro 8620 printer is showing a message saying "locked out by administrator," and you are certain that you did not set up any such restriction, there are a few steps you can take to resolve this issue.

  • Restart the Printer: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary glitches. Turn off your printer, wait for a minute, and then turn it back on.
  • Factory Reset the Printer: If restarting doesn't help, you may consider performing a factory reset on the printer. Keep in mind that this will reset all settings on the printer, including wireless settings. The steps for a factory reset vary between printer models, but you can usually find this information in the printer's user manual. Check HP's official support website for specific instructions for your model.
  • Check Printer Control Panel: On the printer's control panel, navigate to the settings or network menu and look for any security or lock settings. If there's an option for administrator settings or a lock feature, disable it. You may need to consult the printer's manual for guidance on how to access and modify these settings.
  • Update Firmware: Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. Check the HP support website for your printer model and download the latest firmware if available. Firmware updates often include bug fixes and improvements that could address such issues.
  • Check Wireless Router Settings: Verify that your wireless router is not restricting the printer's access. Check the router's settings for any access control or device restrictions and ensure that your printer is allowed to connect.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
