Hi @HelpLG

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like HP Printer Assist may not be working or isn't available on your system. There could be a few reasons for this, but let’s go through some common solutions to help you get it back up and running:

1. Check HP Printer Software Installation

  • HP Printer Assistant is part of the HP software package that typically gets installed along with the printer driver. If it’s not working, it could be due to a problem with the installation or a recent update.

Steps to reinstall HP Printer Assistant:

  • Visit the official HP Support website: HP Support Downloads.
  • Enter your printer model (e.g., HP DeskJet, HP Envy, HP LaserJet, etc.).
  • Download the latest printer drivers and software for your model.
  • Make sure to download the full HP Smart or HP Printer Software package, which includes HP Printer Assistant.
  • Follow the instructions to reinstall and set up your printer again.

2. Update HP Printer Assistant

Sometimes the app might not work properly due to an outdated version or a bug.

  • Open Microsoft Store (if you’re using Windows 10/11) and search for HP Printer Assistant.
  • If it’s available, check for updates and install any pending updates.

3. Ensure HP Printer Assistant is Installed

HP Printer Assistant should be installed on your computer when you install the printer software. If you had previously uninstalled it or if it was removed for some reason, reinstalling the full HP software package should bring it back.

After reinstalling, you can usually find it by searching for "HP Printer Assistant" in your Start menu or by going into Apps & Features in the Settings.

4. Check Windows Firewall or Antivirus Software

Sometimes, third-party firewalls or antivirus software might block the communication needed for HP Printer Assistant to function properly.

  • Check if your antivirus or firewall settings are preventing HP Printer Assistant from accessing the printer or your network.
  • Temporarily disable the firewall or antivirus to check if the program works. If so, add exceptions for HP Printer Assistant.

5. Use HP Smart App (Alternative)

If HP Printer Assistant still isn't working, HP Smart is the updated app that’s widely used to manage HP printers. It provides similar features, such as printing, scanning, and troubleshooting.

  • Download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store or the HP website.
  • Follow the setup instructions to connect your printer and access various settings and features.

6. Check for Windows Updates

Sometimes, Windows updates can impact the performance of certain apps, including printer software. Ensure that your system is up to date:

  • Go to SettingsUpdate & SecurityWindows UpdateCheck for updates.
  • Install any pending updates and restart your computer.

7. Reboot the Printer and PC

After making any changes to the software or settings, try rebooting both your printer and your PC to ensure everything refreshes.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
