HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer - N911a
Microsoft Windows 11

I have an HP Officejet Pro 8600 which I have been using for years with HP Printer Assistant.  I recently bought a new laptop and when I downloaded the printer drivers for the 8600, it installed HP Smart instead.  HP smart does not let you do 2-sided scans the way HP Printer Assistant did.  Is there some way of moving the HP Printer Assistant software from my old laptop (which I still have) to my new laptop?  Alternatively, is there somewhere on the internet when I can still get Printer Assistant?

Hi @Vicki-F,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Let me assist you to download and install HP Printer Assistant.

To download and install HP Printer Assistant, follow these steps:

  1. Turn on the Printer: Make sure your printer is powered on.
  2. Disconnect USB Cable: If your printer is connected to the computer with a USB cable, disconnect it. The software installation prompts you to connect the cable if needed.
  3. Visit the HP Software and Driver Downloads Page:
  4. Identify Your Printer:
    • If prompted, click Printer, type your printer model number, and then click Submit.
  5. Select Operating System:
    • If necessary, change the operating system by clicking Choose a different OS and selecting your version.
  6. Download the Software:
    • Under the Installation Software and Full/Basic Driver heading, select the Full Feature Driver install or HP Easy Start, and then click Download.
  7. Install the Software:
    • Open the downloaded file and follow the prompts to install the software. When installing through HP Easy Start, select Full Software and Drivers as your solution.
    • During the installation, select the Typical or Recommended type of installation when prompted by the software installer.

After installation, your HP Printer Assistant should be ready to use. If you encounter any issues, refer to the printer setup guide or support documents available on the HP website.

For more details, you can visit the HP Printer Assistant - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) page.
