In my home, I have two subnets. One router is our home's internet gateway. It is also used for all non-work related devices and entertainment systems. The second rounter is my private subnet with it's internet port connected to a network port of the home router. We have an HPEnvy 4520 connected to the home subnet and I want to both print to and scan from that device using a computer connected to my private subnet.
I can print to the device using it's ip address, but the scaning does not work as the printer can not see the private computer. I am willing and allowed to open whatever port that allows the printer and my privae computer to talk freely, if that will fix my problem.
Any advice on what to do, other than buying another printer/scanner?
I have two routers.

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂 I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers. For you to have the best experience on the HP forum, you could also visit our HP Forums Guide for First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. I see from your post that you are having issues while scanning. No worries, I'll be glad to help you.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Have you recently made any changes before the issue started?
Are you trying to set it up for the first time or when was the last time it worked?
Are you able to access the EWS page?
Are you able to scan using webscan?
In the meantime, let's try these steps here:
Let’s start by performing a network power drain. Follow the steps below:
Turn off all the devices connected on your network including the PC, Smartphones, printer, modem (if present) and router. Make sure all the devices in the network are turned off / unplugged.
Wait for 2-3 minutes.
Now turn on the modem if present. Wait till all the lights are steady and idle.
Then turn on the router. Again wait for a couple of minutes so that the lights are all steady.
Then turn on the PC and other devices.
Next thing, I would suggest here is if you are able to access the EWS page, then I would suggest you try to scan using Webscan,
for more details, please follow this link: HP Printers - Using the HP Embedded Web Server (EWS)
Alternatively, I would suggest here is to use HP smart app - HP Printers - Using the HP Scan and Capture App (Windows 10, 😎
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!
Eagerly waiting for your response!
that said, If the information I've provided was helpful,

I set it up, for the first time, a few weeks ago, and since the printing worked using the ip address for the printer, I never placed a big priority on the scanning, which doesn't work with this subnet schema. It is now a priority to get the scanning working, as I was required to scan a few documents and had to use my laptop to scan and then use a usb to transfer the scanned pdfs from the laptop to the desktop.
After enabling scanning in the EWS, I am able to scan to my desktop this way.
Thanks!!! That was easy.
But, question: Is there a port setting that would alow scaning as though the computer was on the same subnet as the printer/scanner?
