Hi, I hope to get to the root of XY Problems HP Printer here as I'm struggling to keep this obsolete device on life support and accessible from most devices at home.

Mobile app is crashing here on Version 133.0.6943.132 (Official Build) (64-bit)
stable channel Chromebook, Acer 516GE Intel chip

HP printer is LaserJet but the app crashes immediately on startup with a modal dialog "Something Went Wrong [exit]" appearing simultaneously with the HP Smart app main window. No other options to go past or continue app.

I tried restarting Chromebook and also vmc stop, vmc destroy arc to reset the Android. I also granted permissions such as Location, Camera to SMART. SMART is operating properly on two Android smartphones (Moto Android 11 and Pixel 8 Pro Android 15.) Prints over LAN. Printer won't be able to access HP Smart network services due to obsolescence. MFP scanning service not functional in ChromeOS, or phones. Windows 11 was doing well.

So, trying to manage printer from Chromebook not possible tonight, due to crashy Linux-Android subsystem. I get around that by using SMART on the Android 11 phone. SMART can access the printer over LAN. Can print. Not scan or other function, but print is basic OK.

So I go to Android 15 phone, Pixel 8 Pro. Pixel only uses Mobile Data and not WiFi LAN. So if I understand correctly, jobs can be sent through the SMART network service to reach the printer, which is on Home LAN, from phone, wherever Mobile Data network was. But printer is obsolete. So when I instruct Printer to contact HP Network, it's looking up

And connect fails, because this print service was superseded by HP SMART and the 1536 knows not SMART.

Printer is configured in SMART App. App sees printer fine and receives SNMP. Unsure wehther SMART app on its own can find printer over WAN. old phone has no WAN SIM, only LAN access. Could move to alternate WiFi for WAN print test?

So, correct me if I'm wrong - print from WAN is not possible anymore?

Is scanning obsolete as well? That's OK if I scan with phone camera, but MFP is less multi, 14 years on here. Absolute powerhouse, clean and reliable, never had a hardware glitch, changed toner sparingly, paper glides through without jams or crinkles, prints envelops and labels and double-sided output, top-panel settings and controls are fully with it and versatile, Web Browser management is informative and comprehensive, this is an HP Golden Age Printer, that should be in a museum. Currently not visitors are permitted in home for admirning it.

Welcome to HP Support Community, @jellylusifer

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Since the printer is working perfectly with a Windows device, this helps confirm that the printer itself does not have any hardware or functional issues. It is possible that the concern may be related to compatibility between the printer and the other operating system being used.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I am an HP Employee. Although I am speaking for myself and not for HP.
