I have an officejet 6954 that has been working flawlessly. I had it turned off for a month, since I didn't need to use it. Turned it back on around July 20th and printed some pages (about 5). Got the message that the ink levels were low. I changed the printer cartridges to new ones Now it does not print in color, only black.
It has nothing to do with my computer as even when it is disconnected it still doesn't print in color.
If I try to scan/copy something that has color, even when offline (not connected to wifi or computer), no color (other than black) appears.
Printing an alignment page... no color on the page... .can't complete the alignment.
Tried the following which has not worked
- updated drivers on my Windows 10 computer (even though it won't do color printing stand-alone)
- checked to make sure that "print in grayscale (black only)" is not checked in the OS. It's not.
- cleaning print heads (level 1, level 2 and level 3)
- cleaning print smears
- checked the cartridge vents to make sure they weren't blocked
- put the old cartridges back in.. same result.
The only thing that I see is that there was a firmware update applied on July 15 2020. If there was a way to revert back to the previous firmware level I would try that.

@randy_moore, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
I appreciate your efforts in trying to resolve this issue by performing the necessary troubleshooting steps.
There is no option to downgrade the printer firmware. I'm afraid the printhead has gone bad. Please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.
