HP  SMART TANK 529 NOT PRINTING IN MACOS TAHOE IN USB CONNECTION.

Hi @AKB5698

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how frustrating it feels when your HP Smart Tank 529 refuses to print over USB in macOS, especially after you’ve already tried connecting carefully. Thank you for sharing the details—it shows real persistence.

Since printing works differently on macOS compared to Windows, let’s focus on the key areas that can block USB printing.

What may be happening

  • Driver mismatch: macOS needs the correct printer driver package, otherwise the system may only see the printer as a generic device.
  • USB recognition: If the Mac doesn’t recognize the printer properly, it won’t appear in the printer list.
  • HP App setup: On macOS, the HP App is required for full functionality, including USB printing.
  • Firmware or macOS version compatibility: Outdated firmware or macOS updates can affect communication.

Steps to try

Check printer recognition

  • On your Mac, go to Apple Menu → System Settings → Printers & Scanners.
  • Confirm if the HP Smart Tank 529 is listed.
  • If not, unplug and reconnect the USB cable directly to the Mac (avoid hubs).

Install the correct driver

Add the printer manually

  • Go to Printers & Scanners → Add Printer (+).
  • Select the HP Smart Tank 529 from the list.
  • Ensure you choose the HP driver, not “Generic PostScript” or “AirPrint.”

Update firmware

  • On the same driver page, check for firmware updates.
  • Install the latest version to ensure compatibility with macOS Tahoe.

Test with HP App

  • Download the HP App from the Mac App Store.
  • Open the app, add your printer, and try printing a test page.
  • This ensures the driver and app are working together.

You’ve already shown great care in troubleshooting. These steps will help confirm whether the issue is with macOS recognition, driver installation, or the USB connection itself.

Hello,

Thank you  for your reply.

The printer is recognised by MacOS.

This link "https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers/hp-smart-tank-520-all-in-one-series/2100175037" for driver download is not  working.

Can you provide the correct link for downloading the driver of this printer for macOS Tahoe.

You are Welcome @AKB5698

I understand how disappointing it feels to click a driver link and find it doesn’t work, especially when you’ve already confirmed that macOS recognizes the printer. Thank you for your patience in following through with the earlier steps. Let’s make sure you have the correct resource for your HP Smart Tank 529 on macOS.

Updated Driver and Software Link

You can download the drivers and software for the HP Smart Tank 529 directly from HP’s official support page here:
HP Smart Tank 529 All‑in‑One Printer – Software and Driver Downloads

On that page:

  • Select macOS as your operating system.
  • Choose your macOS version (Tahoe should be listed if supported).
  • Download the available software package.

Important Notes

  • On macOS, the HP App from the Mac App Store is required for full functionality, including USB printing. The driver package works in tandem with the app.
  • If you don’t see macOS Tahoe listed, it means the printer relies on the HP App for setup and printing rather than a standalone driver. In that case, installing the HP App and adding the printer through it will provide the necessary support.
  • Ensure the USB cable is connected directly to the Mac (avoid hubs) when adding the printer.

Next Step for You: Please try the link above and select macOS Tahoe. If the driver isn’t listed, install the HP App from the Mac App Store and add the printer through the app—it will handle the driver integration automatically.
