HP Scan Software

I'm setting up my Envy 5055 on a new Windows laptop and just found out the HP Scan software is no longer available for download as of May 1.  I buy/sell sports cards and am constantly scanning.  The autodetect in the HP Scan software was a lifesaver.  I tried the scanning function within HP Smart app and it is useless.  I dont want to crop each individual scan.   Is there  old version of the HP Scan available for download anywhere.  Google searches are coming up useless.  I am unable to find it on any of the oldsoftware sites.

Perhaps you are referring to two different animals.

HP Scan and Capture -- application -- has been retired as of May 1, 2024.

HP Scan -- and its parent full driver printer software -- is still available for your Windows 11 OS/version.

NOTE:  At this writing, the latest version of HP Smart is working for some of us -- For others, the Scan part is not working at all.  If your HP Smart app is impacted, for now, use other Scan options (for example HP Scan).  HP Smart (Scan) will start working when whatever is going on is resolved.  HP is aware of the issue.

Printer - Full Feature Software

HP Full Feature Software / Full Driver printer software - supports printing and scanning from the web, printing in in other software and programs (for example, Word), and provides access to the full range of Printing Preferences / Shortcuts.  The full driver generally adds at one, possibly least one, possibly two shortcuts to the Desktop: Printer Assistant, HP Scan Assistant, and/or HP Scan.

NOTES:  

HP Scan is not installed if the printer does not support Scan.

The Printer Assistant is not installed if the type of full driver software does not support it.  If the printer model includes built-in Fax hardware, the software supports the setup and use of the Fax driver. No Sign-in required.

Reinstalling?

• Uninstall existing full driver printer software from Programs and Features.
• If your printer includes a separate "help" in Programs and Features, uninstall that, too.
• Restart the computer and log in.
• If the printer is connected to the computer using a printer USB cable, remove / disconnect the cable before loading the software.

If / When asked, opt for the Full Driver / Full Software to be installed.

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and sign in.

The installation of the full driver generally adds at least one or more shortcuts to the Desktop.

 Note:  Printer Assistant, HP Scan Assistant, and HP Scan are dependent on printer model and supported software options.

• Printer Assistant – Where still supported as part of the full driver printer software
• HP Scan Assistant – For those printers that no longer provide the Printer Assistant
• HP Scan – Shortcut on Desktop named for the printer model
• When installed, HP Universal Scan software adds a separate self-named “HP Scan” shortcut

Printer Assistant shortcut > Tab Scan > Manage Scan to Computer > Enable

HP Scan Assistant shortcut > Manage Scan to Computer > Enable

Windows Scan --  The app is less robust than other options but it might suffice.  

“Get” the application from the Store >  Windows Scan

NAPS2 -- third party software -- is still around and worth a look if you've not tried it.

• Download-Save-Install >  NAPS2 
• Not another PDF Scanner – free program scans PDF files and image(s) as .jpeg or PDF file(s).
• Not always simple “Plug and Play”, nonetheless, this free software is powerful and configurable.
• NAPS2 might require that the full driver printer software is installed.

Stuff used to be simpler -- of course, "stuff" did not do as much as what is available today.

Trade-off at the expense of simple plug-and-play.
