HP Smart
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I was trying to use this product on a Windows 10 and it recently asked me to sign in, as of today. When I used to open it, it would just open to the menu options, so I created an account. It now asks every single time "Do you want to help make HP Smart better by sharing usage data?" and no matter what I select, yes or no, it goes to a new prompt and asks the question again. Spinning wheels in the app for a solid minute before it either shuts down or asks the same questions again(Do you want to help make HP Smart better by sharing usage data?) It will crash if you leave it alone or just sit there.

Right now, I am in a constant loop of the app just asking "Do you want to help make HP Smart better by sharing usage data?" and clicking yes or no just keeps repeating the question. If I click on yes or no really fast, I can sometimes get the HP Smart menu option to show. If I close the app and reopen, it will ask the same question again, EVERY SINGLE TIME.

I uninstalled and reinstalled, rebooted the computer, can't think of anything else to do. I saw somewhere that you can reset the HP options, but if it is within the app, that won't work. I tried this install on another computer and it opened just fine the first time and then it started doing the same thing. I tested this on a different computer in a different network from a different ISP connection and it is still doing the same thing. I am at a loss and need support.

I ended up finding the settings option for the application by left clicking Start and finding HP Smart and then right clicking on it, hovering over "More" and then clicking on "App Settings". Once that opened, I found "Repair" and clicked on that. Tried again and it worked without issue.

I’m glad it worked for you but there are an ever growing number of folks that it won’t work for. A windows update or something similar has rendered the app useless.

This is a systemwide HP Smart crash.  HP confirmed such with me twice today after opening up case number.  At first they claimed it would take "2-3" hours to repair.  After I hounded them multiple times later in the day they admitted they were working on it with no timeline for repair.

Worst part of this is not the crash, it is that HP would utilize a centralized server and software system to control simple printer functions such as scan.  One cannot scan without using HP Smart, or at least HP could not find a driver for me to do so.   Meanwhile, HP Smart is inoperable.  When it did function, it was slow to load and required multiple, duplicative inputs.

The question is why they would risk all of their customers devices crashing due to this centralized product control?

IMO, it is because HP is more worried about obtaining customer data and usage so they can sell us more products incessantly, such as their automated ink selling service.  Instead they risk losing their customers because of predatory sales tactics and horribly functioning devices which in and of themselves, are very simple.

Epson, Brother, Lenovo here I come.  What a ridiculous outcome.

Mine is working again FWIW

Bonjour, savez vous si une solution ou reparation a été effectuée pour que l'appli HP SMART remarche à nouveau comme avant?

Merci
