ENVY 5020
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, I really hope you can help as i'm getting frustrated!!

I have just set up my new ENVY5020 printer, installed cartridges and printed alignment etc etc. However, when I then go to install the HP Smart App I locate it easily enough in the MS store and download.

When I open the application the language is in French! 🤔Now, luckily, I know enough French (as I teach it) to be able to find my way around and was therefore able to continue the process of installing the printer and connecting it to my laptop. Strangely, once into the installation the app reverted to English, but on restarting the app it comes back to French again!😱

I cannot for the life of me work out what to do - I have tried the printer's screen menu, looked at the language selection on my settings within Windows, nothing is working.

Please Please help me - I have enough teaching it, I would like to relax and read in my own language!

Thanks in advance

Samiad

Hi

thanks for your input on this - I tried everything you suggested above and it still didn't work. I don't have anything marked as a default app language setting so, in final desperation, I uninstalled the French language pack and now IT WORKS!!!🤗

Hooray!

At a later date I will attempt to add French again and see if it reverts but for now I'm just happy to be able to use it properly!

That may be a suggestion if anyone else has this issue in the future...

Thank you so much for your time and effort.

Hi,

The HP Smart app language relies on your operating system language settings, you do have any sort of French locale set on your computer.

Click the language bar on your taskbar and select Language Preferences.

Ensure the Windows display language is set to English.

From the listed Related Settings menu in the side, click on Date, time & regional formatting, ensure the regional format is set to English, and press the back arrow.

Click on Administrative language settings and ensure the Language for non-Unicode programs is set to English too, also within the Format tab ensure it is set to English.

Change any of the above settings and restart your PC as prompt, then check for any difference.

Thank you for your reply - I have done all of that last night, and again this morning on receipt of your email, but it still isn't working.

The printer itself, when I use the touch screen and go into one of the settings, has a choice labelled "bonjour name" which would seem to imply the printer itself thinks it is in France!

Additionally, I thought i would also hook the printer up to my iPad and, when downloading the HP Smart app to there, it works perfectly. Although I can speak French, I would really rather use the app in my first language for ease.

Thanks in advance

I thought it would be useful to send you some screen shots of what I am seeing

The second one is the printer settings - in French it even SAYS the region is the UK and the language is English!

Hi,

The printer configuration has nothing to do with the HP Smart app, it only relies on your PC configuration settings, Bonjour is an Apple's trademark for Multicast communication, therefore it is shown on the printer menu as part of its network options, it has nothing to do with the French language, but as the trademark, the French display isn't coming from anywhere, especially as you do speak French, there is any sort of french language setting on your PC...

Please click the language bar and select Language Preferences, then take a screenshot of this screen using the Snip & Sketch app.

Click on Administrative language settings and include a screenshot of this screen.

Next, click the Copy Settings button an include a screenshot of this screen too.

Hi, thanks for still trying to help.

Here are the 3 screen shots you asked for - i have used the snip program though as I don't appear to have Snip and Sketch.

Unless I'm missing something, it's all set up as it should be for English - I have even tried to uninstall and reinstall the SmartApp!!

Thanks for the information @samiad,

Please try clicking Start > Settings (gear icon) > Time & Language > Language.

In the bottom Preferred Language area, move Francais to the top and then move English back to the top.

Close this dialog and check for any difference.

If there is no change, open the Microsoft Store app and click the 3 dots menu next to your profile photo.

Choose Downloads and Updates.

Choose Check for updates or Get Updates in the upper-right corner of the page.

Once completing any updates, try opening HP Smart and check if you may see any difference.

If the same persists, one difference I could see, for my PC I can see one of the languages clearly marked as App Default Language, however, I could not find any way to control this setting, if there may be any computing expert familiar with these settings, that would be great:
