Hi -

My HP Smart App started showing an error message and asking me to wait and reload.  Nothing cleared the error so I uninstalled and reinstalled the App.

Now I am met with a blank screen (not even an error message).

This is on my Windows 11 desktop.  I am able to print from my iphone but I primarily use the desktop to print/scan.  

I can print directly from the windows printer app but need the HP Smart App to scan.

Help!

Welcome to the HP Community --

 

HP Smart is fairly sturdy in Windows -- 

That said, the app can get tangled up and stop working.

- Printer Application - HP Smart – Windows -- Check / Reset HP Smart -

 

NOTES – Skipping Steps

 

  • Read everything first, then act.
  • If you skip one or more steps and nothing works, consider going back and adding any missed checkpoints.
  • Ignore anything not relevant, unwanted, disliked.

 

Start

 

High Contrast / Dark Mode

  • If you are running High Contrast or “Dark Mode” and the app will not open at all, try switching to None (for contrast) or “Light” for mode. 
  • After the application opens, set up the printer –
  • Later, if you wish to do so, try setting the mode back to your preferred setting.

Settings > Personalization > Colors > Choose your mode = Light

Scroll down

Related settings

Select Contrast Themes > None

 

Reminder – Version Matters

It is important that every device where HP Smart is installed is using the latest version of HP Smart / HP App for that device type.

 

Check / Update >> Every device (computer(s) and mobile) where HP Smart / HP App is installed should be running the latest version of the HP Smart / HP App application available for that device platform (Operating System / Version).

AND

The printer and device (computer, tablet, phone) where HP Smart / HP App is running should be on the same network.

 

That might be enough…

Stop if everything is now working.

 

Next,

Windows Updates

 

 Check / Run Windows Updates > Install any pending updates

No Joy?

 

Restart Everything, including the router that controls your network

 

Can’t stand it?  Consider:  Restart computer(s) and printer.

 

That might be enough (at least short term) -- check...

Stop if everything is now working.

Open and Check HP Smart

 

Stop if everything is now working.

Next,

If the HP Smart opens but does not work or hangs partly open: 

Close the HP Smart App

If you cannot close HP Smart: Restart the computer and log in

Do not start the HP Smart yet.

Windows - Reset HP Smart Application

 

This action removes the app data.

 

Windows 10 -

Settings > Apps > Apps and Features

 

OR

 

Windows 11 - 

Settings > Apps > Installed Apps

 

Next,

Search / Find HP Smart in the apps list

Open Advanced options > Reset the app

 

Restart the computer and log in

Open HP Smart > Sign in > Add Printer(s)

 

What if?

If the app Reset does not work by itself,

 

Uninstall the HP Smart App

 

Restart the computer and log in

 

“Get” a new copy of the HP Smart application:

 Microsoft Store or 123.hp.com - Printer setup from the HP® Official site

 

Open HP Smart > Sign in > Add Printer(s)
