I have HP Smart 12.8 and it is not working on on my MacBook Air with Catalina. My printer is a 6978, and when I save a scanned document, it comes out not with words, but with numbers and gobblyudeygook. What's the problem?

@mrc4455, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

 

I understand you are having issues while scanning using the HP Smart app. Did you download the HP Smart app from the App Store?

Did you try reinstalling the app?

 

Update the printer firmware

Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your Mac.

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

 

Also, check for any software updates on Mac

Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.

 

Try using the HP Easy Scan app from the App Store or Apple Image capture app to scan and check if the issue persists.
