HP DeskJet 2710 All-in-One Printer

The HP Smart App on my Mac laptop won't connect to the internet (the laptop is definitely connected to the internet, as I am posting this from the laptop). The app displays an error message ("Connect to the Internet..."After connecting to your network, select Continue" Continue is the only button you can press, and you can't restart or close or even trash-then-redownload the app.

Here's what I've tried. You cannot:

1. quit the app (when I select quit, nothing happens)

2. Move the App to the Trash - Mac won't let you when the app is open

3. Restart the computer - Mac won't let you when the app is open, it says that HP Smart blocks the restart

4. I have done a forced restart with the power button, and the HP Smart App is still there, doing the same thing as above, after rebooting the laptop. The behavior has not changed after this step.

5. I have tried downloading an App update from the App Store on Mac. It says I must first quit the app to download an update, but I cannot quit. (btw: the Quit option in the menu bar under the HP Smart heading is grayed out. The only way I can click Quit is by right clicking on the app in the dock, then selecting Quit -- but as above, nothing happens and I do not quit. There is no force quit anywhere I can find).

What do I do to Quit the HP Smart App? Right now it pops up periodically blocking my screen and it lingers in the background--I do not want to just hide it I want to quit and I want to uninstall the app.

Hi @krm49,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're having trouble quitting the HP Smart App on your Mac, you can try the following steps to force quit the application.

  1. Force Quit using Keyboard Shortcut:

    • Press Command + Option + Escape to open the "Force Quit Applications" window.
    • Select the HP Smart App from the list.
    • Click the "Force Quit" button.
  2. Force Quit from Activity Monitor:

    • Open "Activity Monitor" (you can find it using Spotlight by pressing Command + Space and typing "Activity Monitor").
    • In the Activity Monitor window, find and select the HP Smart App.
    • Click the "X" button in the top-left corner of the window to force quit the selected application.
  3. Terminal Command:

    • Open Terminal (you can find it using Spotlight).
    • Type the following command and press Enter:
      pkill -f "HP Smart"
    • This command will force quit any process containing "HP Smart" in its name.

After successfully force quitting the HP Smart App, you should be able to move it to the Trash. Here's how.

  1. Move to Trash:

    • Open Finder and navigate to the "Applications" folder.
    • Find the HP Smart App and drag it to the Trash.
  2. Empty Trash:

    • Right-click on the Trash icon in the Dock.
    • Select "Empty Trash."

If you encounter any issues during this process, you may need to restart your computer after force quitting the app and before attempting to move it to the Trash.

Once you've successfully removed the HP Smart App, you can reinstall it from the App Store if needed.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
