HP Smart Login Loop on Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet - Resolved After Installing HP Print Service Plugin

I wanted to share a long-running HP Smart login issue and the eventual workaround in case it helps other users or the HP Smart development team. For nearly a year, I experienced a problem where HP Smart would allow me to enter my credentials, complete two-factor authentication, and then immediately return me to the sign-in screen instead of logging in.

Affected devices:

- Multiple Google Pixel Fold devices (Pixel 9 Pro Fold and Pixel 10 Pro Fold)

- Google Pixel Tablet

Devices that worked:

- HP.com through a web browser

- HP Smart on a Microsoft Surface Pro 4

Troubleshooting performed:

- Uninstalled and reinstalled HP Smart multiple times

- Cleared cache and storage

- Reset passwords

- Tested multiple devices

- Tested across Android updates and app updates

- Verified successful two-factor authentication

What I discovered:

1. My HP account was valid because I could sign into HP.com without issue.

2. HP Smart worked on Windows using the same account.

3. The login problem consistently occurred on Pixel devices.

4. Installing the HP Print Service Plugin allowed HP Smart to begin working on my Pixel Tablet.

5. On my Pixel 10 Pro Fold, HP Smart would not successfully complete login while the device was open in unfolded mode.

6. After installing the HP Print Service Plugin and signing in while using the folded cover display, login succeeded.

This suggests there may be a compatibility or integration issue involving:

- HP Smart

- HP Print Service Plugin

- Android authentication/session handling

- Pixel foldable devices and display modes

I am not posting this as a complaint. The issue is currently working for me. I am posting it because it took a significant amount of troubleshooting to identify these patterns, and they may help other Pixel users experiencing a login loop where authentication succeeds but HP Smart returns to the sign-in screen.

If anyone from Google/HP is monitoring these forums, I would encourage this information to be forwarded to the HP Smart application team for review.
