HP Smart Tank 5102 All-in-One Printer

I have an HP Smart Tank 5102 printer installed via a USB cable on my ASUS CX 15 Chromebook. I cannot print anything.

The computer has it saved. Just can't print

@GunnerSW7, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to help resolve the issue where your HP Smart Tank 5102 printer is not printing from your ASUS CX15 Chromebook via USB:

Ensure USB Connection is Secure

  • Make sure the USB cable is directly connected from the printer to the Chromebook (not via a USB hub or docking station).

Update Chrome OS

  • Click the time in the bottom-right corner > Settings > About Chrome OS > Check for updates.
  • Restart the Chromebook after updating.

Add the Printer Manually

  • Go to Settings > scroll down and click Advanced.
  • Under Printing, click Printers > Add Printer.
  • If your printer appears, select it and click Add.
  • If it doesn’t appear:
    • Click Add Manually.
    • Enter a name (e.g., "HP Smart Tank 5102").
    • For Address, enter usb://HP/SmartTank5102 (or similar if known).
    • Choose HP as the manufacturer and select the closest matching model or Generic PCL driver.

Try a Test Print

  • Open a document or webpage and press Ctrl + P.
  • Select your printer and try printing.

Additional Troubleshooting

  • Restart Devices: Power off both the printer and Chromebook, then power them back on.
  • Try a Different USB Port or Cable: Faulty cables or ports can cause detection issues.
  • Check Printer Status: Ensure the printer is not in an error state (e.g., blinking lights, paper jam).
