Here’s a step-by-step guide to help resolve the issue where your HP Smart Tank 5102 printer is not printing from your ASUS CX15 Chromebook via USB:
Ensure USB Connection is Secure
- Make sure the USB cable is directly connected from the printer to the Chromebook (not via a USB hub or docking station).
Update Chrome OS
- Click the time in the bottom-right corner > Settings > About Chrome OS > Check for updates.
- Restart the Chromebook after updating.
Add the Printer Manually
- Go to Settings > scroll down and click Advanced.
- Under Printing, click Printers > Add Printer.
- If your printer appears, select it and click Add.
- If it doesn’t appear:
- Click Add Manually.
- Enter a name (e.g., "HP Smart Tank 5102").
- For Address, enter usb://HP/SmartTank5102 (or similar if known).
- Choose HP as the manufacturer and select the closest matching model or Generic PCL driver.
Try a Test Print
- Open a document or webpage and press Ctrl + P.
- Select your printer and try printing.
Additional Troubleshooting
- Restart Devices: Power off both the printer and Chromebook, then power them back on.
