I am having problems setting up my Smart Tank 5105. Everything worked fine until printing the test page. The printer just will not print it. An error code is shown on the display but I have not been able to find it in the manual. It is obvious that is has to do with the "printer carriers" (Druckkopf in german) but to me it seems that they are installed correctly - they clicked in well, also after taking them in and out again. I removed (so it seems) all of the protecting materials.

In the display, the symbol for the printer carrier is blinking, the exclamation mark as well.

Can someone help me?

Thanks a lot in advance!Fehlercode Printer.jpeg

Hi @Toni0904,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

It sounds like your HP Smart Tank 5105 is experiencing a printhead "carriage" error, which usually happens if the printheads aren't fully recognized, the blue carriage latch isn't securely closed, or some internal packaging is still blocking the mechanism.

Secure the Printhead Latch and Seating

  • Open the front door and then the printhead access door to wait for the carriage to move to the center.
  • Push down firmly on the blue latch on the carriage to ensure it is completely clicked into place and flush with the housing.
  • If the error persists, press the blue latch to open it, remove both printheads, reinsert them until they click, and then snap the blue latch shut again.

Clear Internal Obstructions and Tape

  • Check the far ends of the printer's interior for any remaining cardboard, orange plastic, or clear tape that might be stopping the carriage's full range of motion.
  • Inspect the printhead contacts (the gold-colored pads) and remove any protective plastic films that might still be attached to the bottom or back of the printheads.
  • Ensure the ink tubes are not kinked or caught under the blue latch before closing the access doors.

Perform a Hard Power Reset

  • With the printer still turned on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the device.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet and wait for at least 60 seconds to clear the printer's temporary memory.
  • Plug the cord back into the wall and the printer, then wait for the initialization process to finish to see if the blinking exclamation mark disappears.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀
