Good day,
I have a HP Smart Tank 585 printer. I have a Macbook Air. I have the HP Smart app installed, and I can print test pages from that app, but I cannot print from Chrome, Acrobat and any other application. Do you have any suggestion?
thanks

Hi @SzMatefy
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
It sounds like your HP Smart Tank 585 printer is able to communicate with the HP Smart app but not with other applications on your MacBook Air.
This suggests that the printer is properly set up but there might be issues with default printer settings or software compatibility. Here are some steps to resolve the issue:
1. Check Default Printer Settings
Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners on your Mac.
Ensure the HP Smart Tank 585 is set as your default printer.
If it isn’t, click on your printer name and select Set as Default Printer.
2. Update HP Smart App and Printer Drivers
Make sure the HP Smart app is updated to the latest version via the App Store.
Visit the HP Support website Official HP® Drivers and Software Download | HP® Support to download and install the latest drivers specifically for macOS Sequoia 15 and your printer model.
3. Verify Communication Across Applications
Some applications, like Chrome or Acrobat, may require specific print settings:
Open the document you’re trying to print.
Go to Print Settings (Cmd+P) and manually select the HP Smart Tank 585 from the list of printers.
Ensure settings like paper size and print quality match what your printer supports.
4. Reset the Printing System
This is a more advanced fix to clear any printer-related glitches:
Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
Right-click (or hold Control and click) in the printer list and select Reset Printing System.
Add the printer again through Printers & Scanners > Add Printer.
5. Test Compatibility with AirPrint
If your printer supports AirPrint, try printing directly via AirPrint rather than through the HP Smart app:
In the Print Settings (Cmd+P) of any app, select your printer and ensure AirPrint is enabled.
Test printing to see if it bypasses the issue.
