@imawalkin1, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Print Anywhere with the HP Smart App!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It appears that the HP Smart app has limitations regarding the types of files it can recognize and print. Specifically, for documents, the app can only open PDF files directly. Other document types, such as .doc (Microsoft Word) or Excel files, need to be converted to a PDF format before they can be printed using the HP Smart app.

Here are the detailed steps for sending a print job using the HP Smart app and handling different document types:

Steps to Send a Remote Print Job from HP Smart App

  1. Open the HP Smart app, and then click Print Documents or Print Photos.
  2. Open the file you want to print. If it's not a PDF, you’ll need to convert it:
    • For Word, Excel, or other document types, save them as a PDF first using the respective application (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel).
  3. Computers:
    • Change any desired print settings in the print preview, and then click Print or Send File.
  4. Mobile devices:
    • From the print preview, tap Print (Android) or Print Preview (iOS), change any desired print settings, and then tap the Print icon.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
